Yikes, the two comments are very harsh. I personally loved this movie. I'd elaborate further, but if "basic white girl" is a criticism, I'll just reiterate, I think this is a great film.

What a breathtakingly original film! The Worst Person in the World may include narrative beats and cinematic tricks that you've seen before, but it executes them with a flourish, and every moment feels so fresh, meaningful, and resonant. This is a film that knows exactly what it wants to be, and it even manages to take a stale technique like voiceover (usually the mark of lazy screenwriting) and transform it into something beautiful and expressive.

We're taken on a journey of interiority with the protagonist, as she struggles with her identity, impulses, and an ever-evolving sense of what it means to be a "good" person. Exemplifying the adage "show, don't tell", the film lays before us actions, reactions, body language, and remarks, and it's a testament to how exceptionally well-written The Worst Person in the World is that the audience is always able to follow along and intuit the characters' complex feelings, motivations, and desires. The characters and dialogue feel so real, so alive, and not a line or scene is wasted; meanwhile, the actors inhabit their roles with nuance, subtlety, and grace—Renate Reinsve and Anders Danielsen Lie in particular deserve all the praise that has been heaped upon them. In short, I can't remember the last time I saw a contemporary character-driven drama that was executed so well!

There are some disparaging comments below, however, about how the film is nothing more than "millennial navel-gazing" and the clichéd story of so many people that we know. To be honest, I'm shocked that anyone was able to view this film from such empathetic distance, and I wonder if the response would have been the same had the protagonist been a male with quintessentially male interests. Yes, this is a film about millennial characters, grappling with millennial concerns, and yet their story is at once relatable and personal, universal and particular, timeless and ephemeral. Art can elevate the mundane into the profound, and perhaps I'm just a self-indulgent millennial myself, but I found this film to be a masterpiece—the voice of an entire generation of indecisive existentialists.

I'm sorry, but "Very charming movie with very good acting", fine opinion, but top comment?? The top comments here are empty but positive and all the bottom comments are negative but substantial. So all criticism is downvoted? :S

I dunno, I guess its the title + the lead actresses' passing resemblance to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, but I was looking forward to a comedy about an awful human bean. Kind of disappointed it was a not comedy about a not awful bean.

"original"? and "breathtakingly" at that? well, if this is your 7th or 8th movie you've seen in your entire life, then it could be, yeah.

for educated tastes, this is your pretty mediocre scandinavian drama with worn-out basis of existentialist male/unstable female relationship. nothing wrong with the theme but it processes it in a very dull and pedestrian way.

joachim trier started as a promising director with "reprise" but with each movie he went worse and worse. pity.

Two hours of Millennial navel gazing. Still, good acting, nice soundtrack and visual storytelling. Pacing is a little off in the last third.

Not really a comedy if you ask me. Also nowhere near as good as Baumbach or Allen.

Woody Allen film without funny lines and actual life of 543 millions of people. Good editing, insignifiant film.

aka “Basic white girl”. Ok, maybe that’s too harsh but I failed to see anything engaging in it. I believe everybody has met at least 10 people like Julie (male or female). It’s like “get over yourself”. I guess that’s the reason for its title but because of that I got nothing from watching it.

It has been described as a dark comedy but it’s pretty straight forward. The last 30 minutes had some of interesting things going on but they were told mostly through dialogue. Also, the spoiler was a massive cop out.

I can't say it’s awful but it definitely left me cold. And I say this as someone who loves Frances Ha.
