An average but watchable war-time domestic drama where straight-forward squaddie Jim (John Mills) gets wind of his wife's potential infidelity with sleazy local womaniser Ted Purvis (Stewart Granger) and so goes AWOL to find out the truth. There's some good tension as Mills has to stay on the run from the MPs hunting him while he tries to track down his wife, and whole film builds nicely to the confrontation of the two men, which does not disappoint - it's surprisingly well choreographed and more gritty than you might expect for the time. It's good to watch Granger having his clock cleaned after his suitably supercilious performance. A simple tale, but well enough told. 11 years 5 months ago -
