The first scene of mass panic is effective and skillfully done, but the script soon regresses to a globe-trotting hyperbole that even the lean and atmospheric third act cannot salvage. Some plot points are also outright ridiculous.
Look! He has a family. We keep showing you. Why don't you care about him? Can't you see that he has a wife and children? No ... why would we ... look, we don't need character development. He literally has a monogamous partner and offspring! They are right there.
No idea about the book but as a movie I thought this was quite good.
Altogether, there's a decent mix of visually impressive disaster-movie scenes coupled with some well built up moments of horror suspense.
Agree with the comment below that apart from Pitt, the film failed to get the audience invested in the characters and so it hardly seemed to matter when certain ones turn into zombie feed. This was a bit of a shame since WWZ had such an impressive looking cast with the likes of Pierfrancesco Favino, Mireille Enos, David Morse and James Badge Dale. Instead the movie seemed to be trying to do too much, cover an ambitious amount of ground and the result is that most of our principle cast are cardboard cutouts. Another minor gripe with this film is what i'm assuming is a PG rating... if you're going to depict an apocalyptic scenario involving the flesh eating undead then there really ought to be more blood and guts.
Would probably give it 7-7.5 / 10. It's entertaining and certainly better than most of the shite out there but not amazing.
Not particularly impressive. Enjoyable as a zombie flick, but nothing like the massive build up it had gained. Virtually nothing was explained and the plot was full of holes.
I'm not a biologist, so I don't know, but do lethal pathogens really come in bottles?
I really have no reason to want to watch a zombie movie at this point in my life/the history of humanity, so succumbing to World War Z was entirely about seeing Peter Capaldi play the "W.H.O. Doctor" (based in Cardiff, no less), a FULL SIX WEEKS before he was announced to have been cast as Doctor Who. That is a masterful clue delivered thanks to insider knowledge. Anyway... By 2013, we'd seen "zoombies" plenty, but Marc Forster can at least be counted on to deliver a good-looking movie. And there IS at least one memorable sequence in there (in Jerusalem). But otherwise, the action kind of blurs together as Brad Pitt fights off or escapes one zombie attack after another, just in different environments, playing a game of Pandemic for high stakes. The action is obviously the main draw, but it often feels like the movie wants to be a procedural - what WOULD happen during a real zombie plague? - and just can't get out from under its action requirements. Instead of one cookie-cutter hero, its scope would have been better served by an ensemble (in the style of, say, Contagion), which I understand was the novel's take on it.
I honestly expected it to be worse. After reading the book, which was GREAT, I was putting off watching the movie because I didn't want to be disappointed. But it was not that bad, except for a cliche ending and some illogical decisions made by the characters...
The book focused more on the global view and the movie just sort of mentioned some of the places or quickly visited them. I think that there is going to be a sequel and it will be interesting to see them maybe explore more of the possibilities from the book or take a new turn (
Finaly, zombies that run. I think some parts of the story are a bit far-fetched. But generally I liked it. However, I think the end of "28days"is a bit more how an apocalyps will be. But hey, it is a good action movie.
First off: this is only based on the title of a book. It has nothing to do with the content of it. So please stop saying so in the comments.
Anyways, an ok movie. It was generally terrible, with tons of terrible logic and clichés. But some characters are quite likable, and it's a fun movie to watch.
First thing: I really don't like zombies.
They are stupid (most of the time), walk stupid and when they start to run they freak me out.
Though I liked the fact that these zombies only want to spread the virus and not eat your brain / guts, I was still scared through this whole film.
Only not so scared at the ending when the 'hero' (Brad Pitt) infects himself with the pathogen (and I do believe they come in bottles, tust me, I'm a Biologist) and the zombies turn in the stupid creatures again, which they are.
A comment on that scene: Why didn't he write on the cardboard 'Call me if I'm holding the right pathogen'
instead of 'Tell my family I love them'. He knew the hospital staff was watching.
Comments on FameAsser: He thought a person checked-in and boarded in the plane while he was infected by the virus. Which is stupid, as he told himself, because it only takes 8 seconds to change.
I think it's a case of a zombie hiding in the baggage compartment. Since it was already a total mess and disaster when the plane left Jerusalem, he must have found a way in and causing carnage when the flight-attendant opened the elevator. Simple as that.
Overall I did liked the original Zombie-invasion and solutions. 7/10
I didnt know that this movie was based on a book, and I really not care about that, the movie by itself is good, a lot of scenes are great, others scenes I didn´t like.
It is going to have a sequel? The ending was a little rushed.

Entertaining, ok movie to some kill time, but to me nothing special. Snobbish zombies if I might say. ;)Alliha

The movie only correlates with the book as far as title but it was a pretty crazy fun movie nonetheless.Videl
