The film is strongest when it confines itself to moments of discovery between only two or three characters. By contrast, it's weakened by overblown CGI spectacle (as in the finale). It's hip production design (indebted Connery's Bond era) and a setting during the Cuban Missile Crisis suggest a faux-gravitas that will be lost on many of this summer's popcorn munchers.Many will remember the adoption of X-Men: The Last Stand as a metaphor for the gay community. That film asked "Is mutation illness or identity, sickness or signatue?" Should the franchise continue on course as 1960s historical fiction, I'd expect future installments to similarly address themes of the Civil Rights Movement.

really good movie, not just comic book movie, the character development between charles and erik was great and exactly what I was hoping for. it was an origin story without feeling like it was just there putting pieces of a puzzle together. loved the cast, how the characters were written and portrayed, and feel of the movie.filmistruth

Don't know why people say it's a bad movie. even this tough movie critic (Dutch, strong preference for French drama's) gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Agree with the Wolverine cameo, LOL!Eduardo Nasi
Lovers gonna love it.Claremont's mistresses will probably call it awesome.
But, come on, the effects are trashy, maybe even Smallvilly. The mutated Beast is totally embaracing.
PS: doesn't Rose Byrne resembles a John Byrne art? Hm?
