   Way better than I was expecting for an Alien ripoff, a great surprise. Love the effects here, and the balance between creepy creature stuff and everything else is spot on.
   
   The editing too is well done and interesting The sound of a mom frantically searching for her child is played over the boy's pet snake, just escaped from its cage, slithering slowly under the bed to hide. Love it.
   
   The metaphors for abuse and abandonment fit surprisingly well. I would expect those layers to mess with the tone of a creature feature, but scenes where the father tells the son that his violent alien tendencies towards him and others are "their little secret" add such an unsettling element. Overall it really works as the effects and setting comes off more uncanny and creepy than it does silly, and the writing and editing support these themes. 1 year 1 month ago
