Dad jokes, easy puns, and lame gags on infinite repeat. The only aspects of it I enjoyed were Wilder's performance and the dance/song routine at the end.tigh66

I am not a big fan of Mel Brooks. I think most of his movies are completely stupid like Blazing Saddles, but this one...This one is gold!!!thyron
After watching this I finally understood what The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which came out one year later, actually is: a parody of a parody.contrafugal

After all these years remains one of the funniest movies ever!!!!! Sooooooooooooooo good!!!!Siskoid
Didn't watch a Halloween movie for Halloween, so Young Frankenstein (one of the actually GOOD films I won in the last Oscar Pool) is a case of better late than never. And I hadn't seen it in decades. The thing about Mel Brooks' parodies is that unlike their modern equivalent - Scary Movie and the like - they're not just a collection of references, gags and clichés, they're telling their own story. So Young Frankenstein is at once a tribute to the old Frankenstein films - using similar cinematography, make-up and pacing, as well as some of the original props - a parody of the same, AND as a proper sequel! Yes, there are gags and even a hilarious musical number, but the story is also a poignant one about fathers and sons. Younger audiences might, I suppose, get impatient with the comedy because it's definitely not "laugh-a-minute", but I rather admire it because it ISN'T. Gene Wilder and company are pitch perfect, of course, and I've always had a crush on Teri Garr, and ooh, didn't realize Gene Hackman had a small part in it!Oneironaut
Enjoyed it despite not seeing it as a funny movie (not one laugh, but I did appreciate the humour in everything). The cast was excellent, but it was just lacking comedy.
