Watched a copy with hardcoded English subs (I speak Russian and don't need them). They made the movie unintentionally hilarious at times.

"Hey you guys named John. Did you kill my Basil?"

The use of symbolism isn't new, even in this early movie. But it is done extremely well here to relay the message of the director. Old, new, death, life, endings and beginnings all see themselves shadowed here. Lovely.
