I came in here to post almost exactly what crumzy said. The film started on a very high note, stumbled around halfway through, and was, with the exception of a few exciting shoot-out scenes, quite run-of-the-mill.
I really enjoyed this. For some reason I actually thought I was preparing to watch the American version (I was heretofore unaware that it was in fact based on a Spanish original), though I'm glad I caught the original article.
The only downside to my viewing experience was that I watched it alone, and so had nobody to scare the bejeezus out of during the tense moments, preferably with an unexpected grab to the midsection accompanied by a loud scream.
I hated Art Garfunkel's character so fucking much. What a whiny, pitiable pussy. However, as with all characters who inspire such contempt in me tend to go, I have to praise his performance.
Didn't expect to like it, though it had several ominous, unidentifiable qualities that actually kept me interested for the entire duration. I wouldn't watch it again, though it certainly wasn't unpleasant.
Jesus, that's not something one might forget anytime soon. Despite knowing full well whom the director was, I went into this armed with a cup of hot tea and a buttered scone. Bad move. I had to abandon them only a few minutes in.
Also, the workers' rendition of Trenet's celebrated 'La Mer' (a song I have listened to thousands of times since first hearing so many year ago, and have always associated with perfect calm) to the tune of unabashed slaughter will forever remain in my mind.
Were it nor for Dan Duryea, this would have been instantly forgettable. He managed to drag this out of utter stagnation and instill (some) liveliness. Despite that, it was still utterly, utterly boring.
Just finished watching this. It seemed good, though the subtitles I found (there aren't many lying around at present) were absolutely horrific. The majority of the sentences only shed a crack of light onto what was actually being said. Despite reading every line, I felt as though I could've been just as well-apprised if I were stood in another room, occasionally glancing at the television screen.
Spectacular. Jet Li as the stoic, unyielding, yet gentle and loving father, was a pleasant surprise. Like many actors chiefly known for their stunt work and martial arts films, he succeeded perfectly into his first major foray as a straight actor.
A commendable performance by Zhang Wen, too, playing the part of the autistic adolescent. I couldn't help but place his ability to morph into the character in the same stratum of excellence as that of So-ri Moon in Chang-Dong Lee's 'Oasis'.
Really great comedic action flick. Reminded me a lot of Eddie Murphy's performances in the Beverly Hills Cop series.
One question to anyone in the know: was that stunt with the belt and the car transporter actually performed by someone? What with the quality of CGI these days, it's impossible to tell. Looked completely real though, and highly dangerous.

The Mission? That was nowhere near the level of both Exiled and (this) Vengeance. That said, this is one of To's greatest efforts.

"Show me your dick.""No, it's soft."
"So?"
"I'll show it you when it's hard."
"Why?"
"To see it at its best."
Hilarious film.

Shockingly poor follow-up.My advice would be to watch the first one, then leave the rest.

Absolutely spectacular. The choreography for the sword fight was incredibly intense- even more so if you consider the era in which this was made. Now I'm off to see Burton's version.
