Not only an incredibly generic and unconvincing slasher, the script and acting combine to create some of the most annoying characters I've ever seen. I know that this is done on purpose so that the audience wants to see them killed, but the movie goes above and beyond with their level of obnoxiousness. All the "teens" look about 30, and all the girls who take their tops off have obvious breast implants. IMO there are four or five Friday the 13th movies better than this one, and this is the Friday the 13th franchise we're talking about - the bar is set so low it's practically underground. Hatchet 1 & 2 do a far better modern take on the 80s slasher movie.

Tiresome, contrived and predictable disaster movie. Most of the running time is taken up with characters running/driving/flying through computer-generated scenery which falls apart always just at their heels.

Looking at this movie as a whole, it works brilliantly in conveying its theme of the madness of war, and how it drives good men to do bad things.

Really entertaining, and one of the best spaghetti westerns not directed by Sergio Leone. Like "A Fistful of Dollars" with a hugely amped up level of violence.

Do you really like opera?
Nooo.

Great performances all round, and a well-structured movie, but there was some rather nasty sexism running through the whole movie that ruined it for me. The romantic hero saying "what she needs is a guy that'd take a sock at her once a day, whether it's coming to her or not" was particularly disturbing.

Not only one of the most beautiful movies ever made, but the Thackeray's story and Kubrick's screenplay are brilliant observations of human nature and the fortunes and misfortunes that cause Barry's rise and fall. Music, costumes and sets are also perfect. Only Ryan O'Neal lets the side down with a performance that, while serviceable, doesn't match up to the brilliance going on around him.

Poor Evil Dead ripoff filled with huge amounts of awful CGI effects that are extremely distracting.

The dialogue may be poor, and plot weak, but this must be one of the most beautiful animated films I have seen. Fantastic atmosphere and attention to detail.

Fantastic movie. Witty and original satire of Hollywood. Metafictional elements are perfectly integrated into the film.

The victims made such stupid decisions that I couldn't care less about them. Several bizarre plot developments as well to make the villains all-powerful. The movie's main theme: to implicate the viewer as a participant in the violence was handled really poorly. There are some interesting breaking-the-fourth-wall ideas, more emphasis on this might have helped the movie. The guy who played the main villain was pretty cool, though. I liked him.

I'm going to be the lone voice of dissent here, and say that although the final scene was very well done and emotional, I found the rest of the movie that it depends on to be contrived and illogical. The millionaire's soberness seeming to cause amnesia, thieves just happening to be hiding in the house when the tramp is given money, etc.
It might be OK if I found Chaplin's slapstick antics funny, but I don't.

Boring and contrived. The most useless aliens ever.

The plot of this movie is completely insane and the twist at the end is obvious, but despite this it manages to be reasonably entertaining, as Hanks runs around Rome spouting reams of exposition between action scenes. I enjoyed this a lot more than the Da Vinci Code.

A very important movie in the development of film, and I did find it enjoyable, but time and countless other sentimental films have rather eroded the power of this film to the point where it seems crude and schmaltzy. I was also rather non-plussed by the Dreamland sequence, which seemed to interrupt and distract from the emotional climax of the film.

Slow, but very atmospheric. The compositions of light and shadow are weirdly beautiful, and the short length feels just right. The walk through the cane field where Jessica's white dress streams out behind her in the wind is a particular standout.

Perhaps most interesting Brakhage short I've seen so far, with various shots of flowing water with varying lighting, and light refracted through droplets.

Plastic-like CGI characters and gigantic icy sets gave this film a very sinister feel. Very unengaging and trite story too.

Good fun movie, and better than most of the 80s slasher movies it's paying homage to, but ultimately it suffers from being too faithful, and I had a frequent feeling of deja vu as it replayed slasher movie tropes.

Well made, exciting and OTT gory, but let down by the way the more disturbing and emotional content doesn't seem to mix well with the silliness of a lot of the violence. The killer reminded me of Wile E Coyote the way he would absorb a massive amount of damage but then be pretty much OK and carry on trying to kill people.

"The atomic bomb flash could burn you worse than a terrible sunburn."
Sounds nasty. Maybe Bert the Turtle should have advised people to always put on suncream just in case an atomic bomb went off near them.

@Jumping Elephant Not as hilarious as Brakhage building a career out of making pointless drivel.
