Is something going on with the TSP noir list? I click on films in there...The Brasher Doubloon for example, and on the films indiviual page it doesnt show the TSP noir list, as if the film no longer counts toward your ranking since it isnt on any list. I randomly clicked like 15 films on the list and several show it not being there anymore...
The most recent few waves of Criterion were added, but it looks like some stuff is still missing....
from a quick look, the seven BBS films and The Night of the Hunter arent there. So there are probably a couple months of new releases that havent been included
A taxicab ride at the very beginning of the movie is significantly more suspensful than the first murder, and after that i was really bored. Maybe theres good atmosphere at points, but when the climaxes to such scenes are so cheesy and poor the build up is really diminished.
a really cool feature on this site would be if movies on a list had some sort of indicator that a user has posted a link within the comments section on a movie. Just a little flag between the check box and the gear thingy.
Its very time consuming to click on all the movies you havent seen on a list indivually to see if any one has posted something new.
That said, I love the Watchlist feature. I browse through the site at lunch break and add anything I can find with a link to that thing, so I dont have to dig it up later.
Its silly how chopped together this is. Even worse than the Pink Panther movie after Peter Sellers died.
when they need "Bruce" to look up in one scene, they cut to a scene in Way of the Dragon with a completely different background. They have his double wear giant sunglasses indoors. Theres shots of "Bruce" from the neck down here and there so they dont have to show someone elses face.
my point wasnt to call Dark Knight an undeserving movie (although in my opinion it is not top 1000).
My point was that every list is flawed. This list is flawed because it leaves off several modern classics in favor of older movies that arent as well known and that I LIKED that. Ive always loved Wilder and Godard...but because of this list I saw "One, Two, Three" and "Tout va Bien", underrated gems in their filmographies. Personally, I feel like adding the RT ratings *might* may make this list more accurate, but really takes away some of its uniqueness and charm.
at one point, some one went through and checked just about everything in every list, making him the #1 overall by a couple thousand films....I dont know if he deleted his account or if an admin did it...but it was appreciated.
im #27 on this one, but consider myself #25 for sure
frankly I think its crazy for people to expect a list of a 1000 bloody movies to shake out exactly the way they want it to. The TSPDT is a very useful tool and like any list is by no means definative, so people should really stop complaining.
Regarding the age thing, I love that the majority of the site's sources for their ranking system is aimed at movies that have had time to sit in people's minds. If anything, I think the quality of the overall list was diminished when they took on Rottentomatoes...a site largely based on immediate reaction to a movie. Now we have the Dark Knight on there instead of some gem I could have uncovered from deep in some great directors filmography.
