This film won a special Academy Award for "unique and artistic production." "Wings" also won in the category, however, for"Outstanding Picture, production." It was the first award ceremony and they honored films for 1927 and 1928. In subsequent ceremonies, only one picture was given the "Best Picture" award
Well, this is funny and doesn't even try to look realistic, but that campiness is true to the original movie. For some reason my dvd has Portuguese menu; I did get it to speak Ingles, but can't get English subtitles. Otherwise, it's fun.
I was just a kid in 1966 when this came on television, and Kato quickly became the one to watch instead of the title character. It was my first exposure to a martial artist beyond the occasional Judo chop to the neck. It is fun to see again, but the production budget must have been minimal. A good chance to see a young Bruce Lee in action.
Olivier was criticized for cutting the play by almost half, but this is the best of the filmed versions. Although he was a little too old, he played the part well.

They just cobbled together some episodes to make this movie, capitalizing on Lee's success. ;)Movie comment on The Green Hornet
