This video contains a few of the most bizarre images in film history. Chief among them a severed dog head allegedly kept alive by a machine out of a Nine Inch Nails video. It's either a legit documentary, or the propaganda equivalent of science fiction, which would make it a "Blair Witch" version of 'The Brain That Wouldn't Die'.
I know there's a lot of Tarkovskiy on here, but I'm still surprised Solaris is missing, given its reputation. (They probably try to limit entries by director, or else everything by Malick, Bergman, Tarkovskiy, etc would flood the list)
Melancholia will probably beat Another Earth if one of them creeps on to the list (But only one may prevail in the 2011 introspective stange new planet genre!)
And speaking of Lars von Trier, Breaking the Waves is a much more obvious candidate than Dogville and will probably show up on this list one day.
The Fountain, Pi, the Wrestler, Black Swan etc. Aronofsky definitely deserves an entry.
Mr. Nobody might show up if it pulls itself out of obscurity.
Almost all of those are shorts and documentaries though; only two are feature films: The Dove (1927) and the The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1929). Bits and Pieces of The Dove survive at the Library of Congress, and if you want to watch San Luis Rey you'll need to visit the George Eastman House in upstate NY.
But even if you travel to NY and DC you'll never be able to complete this list. The Way of All Flesh (1927) and The Patriot (1928) are completely lost. (Ironically these are not included with the zero check entries; since they are famous for being lost, people apparently think its funny to check them).
Alan has surprisingly well-developed social skills for someone who was stranded in the wilderness for 30 years. Eye contact, affectionate touching, and witty banter. Wow.
Is that a weird thing to find unrealistic about a movie about a magic gameboard?
1. Do all of these popular Indian movies have to be 3+ hours long? It's a light romantic comedy, not Schindler's List. Less is more.
2. Do all these popular Indian movies have to star Aamir Khan. I don't get it. I see two lame Khan movies just kicked Hayao Miyazaki and Wong Kar Wai off the imdb top 250 list. Move aside real artists, with international appeal, it's time for crap.
3. Does Aamir Khan have to keep playing in college-kid roles he aged out of 20 years ago?
I keep seeing that tongue-in-cheek everyone in the neighborhood glee number in the street. Scott Thompson in Brain Candy, Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer, Bjork in It's Oh So Quiet.
It's usually the best part of a mediocre movie, but it's becoming cliche.
I had to resort to fileshare networks to watch this. On paper this is a foreign film, but the cast, language, and personality of Mr. Nobody make it indistinguishable from a Hollywood movie; similar to pictures like Tree of Life or Benjamin Button.
That's not an insult. This 2009 movie was obviously expensive to make, and could've made a lot of money in American theaters. I don't understand why it was never shown here, or at the very least, why it was never pushed through the video rental market. It also doesn't seem to have made a lot of noise on the international film circuit, like Cannes and Sundance. There are only a few no name critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
In a lot of ways Mr. Nobody seems like a lost movie. Like a big Hollywood movie that fell between the couch cushions.
