concerning the film, I totally agree with BlueVoid... and unless I'm mistaken, I see a very young Polanski himself as the second assailant to hit striped shirt guy, standing up against the wall. At 2.10minutes into the second part of the movie, he even gives a little hint about what he's going to do to Jack Nicholson in Chinatown....
this one seems doable and uploaded after last comments. about the film, typical early talkie in that is too silent without the music. Also, Fields just doesn't appeal to me like Chaplin, keaton or the Marx bros.
Something like this makes me so angry... But great doc and should be mandatory viewing (especially for catholics still unknowing, in denial or even turning a blind eye)
Loved it! Great and mostly unpredictable story, Gene Tierney is beautiful and it's fatastically lit. Some great dialogue too, especially from Clifton Webb's character. Way better than The Big Sleep
Took a little getting used to, this film, but I do see how Scorsese was influenced by this film (he said so on numerous ocassions). It's images and the use of pop music instead of a score were pretty innovative...
Do you actually feel that way? Perhaps New York is pretty tolerant, but seen from Europe, the United States are hardly a shining example of tolerance (I think of attitudes against homosexuality, atheism, euthanasia etc.).
On-topic: The film is pretty corny indeed and hasn't aged that well. Still, it's message is commendable
Actually Luiz, I am familiar with the writings of the Marquis de Sade and as a historian also somewhat familiar with the concept of a dictatorship, even the 64-85 one in Brazil. I agree that America has committed barbaric atrocities, sometimes it's disgusting. I don't agree however that therefore every piece of literature, art or cinema from the states should be burned at the stake. I certainly don't think this movie glorifies torture or shows the interogators enjoying it. All I ask is that you give something like this a fair chance. You don't see me blurting at the board of films like 'Khane-ye doust kodjast' or 'A Separation' because Iran treats women and atheists unfairly? You should try not to let your preconceptions and/or prejudices influence your Judgement of a piece of cinema.
I am from a cold country (temperature wise, I'd like to think), I suppose you could call it northern, for it is The Netherlands (Holland) I hail from. And rich? well, the economy is down the drain, A lot of people have debts and young people have difficulty getting a house. From what I know, compared to Brazil, The Netherlands still has little to complain about, but the riches sure have diminished compared to the generation before mine..
I don't know where you get the afraid part, but the things I fear are economic meltdown (yes, quite likely because of an American financial crisis), religious wars and massive ignorance. Also, I don't really care when people just blurt out strong opinions (especially when untrue imho) on messageboards without proper context or argumentation, hence my reaction to your post.
p.s. what does the adjective ufanist mean? I tried to google it, but to no avail...
That's hardly an opinion about the movie. Whether you agree with or believe in the theories of those 5 people is not Linked to whether it's a cool or great documentary or not...
I think it was very good and a great example of how far fans are willing to go and how mesmerizing Kubrick's films still are. Technically well made and a great watch, even if some theories are beyond bonkers....
Stunned. just finished watching it. I hate Bjorks music and still don't really enjoy her voice/style, but Dancer in the Dark is amazing, and so is her acting. Utterly captivating.
