As you'd expect from a film by the director of two Saw movies, Jessabelle lays it on pretty damn thick.

Although he still claims that actual footage of the alleged alien autopsy did exist (or does exist, in degraded form), Ray Santilli eventually admitted that the footage dissected in this and several other documentaries was "a reproduction" of this original footage. That he exercised "artistic license" by fabricating six-fingered control pads supposedly used by the aliens, among other things, says something else about his credibility.

Two interesting things about this bog-standard documentary: 1) Stanton Friedman appears at the end to express doubt about the footage's authenticity (he tends to be on the pro side of any documentary arguing for the existence of UFOs and extra-terrestrial contact), and 2) one of the interviewees correctly predicts that the film would be revealed as a hoax after Santilli had collected royalties from numerous TV studios for their use of the footage.

Some might say it's surprisingly solid for an action thriller that has Brian Dennehy and James Woods as the leads. But then, Woods is an incredibly underrated actor, who plays his tell-all hitman role to perfection. It's a good, albeit unspectacular movie.

It's highly enjoyable listening to Stone talk about his films, politics, society, whatever. Not so enjoyable is listening to and watching Kiselyak blow smoke up his ass. Fortunately, this film features much more of the former than the latter, so it's worth checking out.

I find it surprising that this hasn't found its way onto any official lists.

Alas, this terrible film got the MST3K treatment long before the show hit its peak.

A group of Americans "bring civilization" to a far-off planet by dropping bombs on iguanas. And no there isn't any social commentary. 2/10 (Decent MST3K)
