After seeing 13 Assassins I can easily say that Takashi Miike only continues to impress me more and more as a director. This is without quenstion one of the best samurai-films in recent years, mabye the best since Seven Samurai. However, it's not as plot and charcter driven as Kurosawa's film, but thats not really the point. Unlike Seven Samurai 13 Assassins' is more of a none stop gory action packed rollercosterride and it's awesome!

If you're fan of the genre seeing this movie is mandatory.

Well acted and directed film with a great message, not to mention an amazing perfromance by Robin Williams which I consider to be one of his best ever.

Even tough I wished it could have focused more on Robin Williams' character I still really enjoyed this film.

A great little black comedy of a film about two hitmen who tries to keep low profil in the belgian town of Bruges after a certain killing. Filled with clever and witty dialog, memorable characters and a very well written script, makes this movie an absolute must see.

An incredibly unpleasant and effective film from Japanese director Takashi Miike, who after seeing this and Ichi the Killer is a director that I will be keeping an eye on. Audition is directed with absolute skill, filled with great perfromances and some very creepy scenes that will stick in your mind for hours after you have seen it.

The only way I can sum up this movie, is that to me, this has to be every guy's worst nightmare. And I am not going to lie, this will probably make you think twice before you go on a date with someone :)

Highly recommended, but stay away if you're very squeamish.

Out of all the films from Akira Kurosawa that i have seen, The Hidden Fortress might acturlly be my favorite. Kurosawa proves once again that he was one of the best storytellers in cinema. Fun characters, great story and great performances, not to mention the beautiful cinematography and locations. It may not be as deep as his other films like Seven Samurai and Rashomon, but it is without a doubt one of his most entertaining.

This film was acturlly one of George Lucas' biggest inspirations for Star Wars and you will definitely notice the similarities between the two films while watching it, in terms of it's storystructure. But for me, that might have explained why i find this film so fun and entertaining, since i love these kinds of stories.

But yeah, great film and in my opnion one of Kurosawa's absolute best.

In relation to the action sequences and the directing, It's an improvement over the first film, but like the first film it lacks a certain balance in the tone and is not as entertaining as it sould be, considering it's great cast of action-stars and more importantly, being an actionfilm.

A bit uneven and far from Mel brooks' best film, but the jokes are funny enough to work not just as a good spoof on Star Wars, but also on the Sci-fi genre as a hole.

As a fan of the Planet of The Apes series, i was really suprised by Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Not only was it an entertaining movie, it was also one of the best prequals in a long time filled with great special effects and an outstanding prefomance by Andy Serkis. And after seeing Dawn, i can easily say that it's another great entry in the series.

Like the previous film the special effects on the apes are amazing and Andy Serkis again is absolutely fantastic as the lead ape Cesar. The film is also gorgeous to look at do to some amazing cinematography and art design. However, i do have some problems.

Even tough i really liked most of the performances(especially from Gary Oldman) I personally found the human-characters to be a bit bland and one-dimentional compared to the ape-characters who i loved! And i think the film loses some focus on the story in favor of the action-sequences. The film also got a bit to melodramatic for my taste, but thats just my opinion.

As a Planet Of The Apes film it definitely delivers, in being like most of the other films, intelligent and entertaining. I personally don't see it as being of the greatest sci-fi films in a long time, but more of a very good Planet of the apes film.

So even tough i don't think it lives up to the hype, i still really enjoyed it as a fan. The ending made me look forward to the next entry. Which can only be a sign, that i still enjoy this franchise.

The first movie was one of the greatest actionfilms I had seen in a very long time and believe it or not, this violent extravaganza of a sequal is even better. Like the original, the action and fights scens are absolutely mind-blowing and will definitely be remembered as some of the best ever put to film.

The film is unlike the first one, more heavy on plot and characters and has a longer running time, 2 and a half hours which might turn some people off. But personally it was some of the fastes 2 and half hours i had ever witnessed.

The only problem i have with the film, is that the plot can get a bit more convoluted than it needed to be and some of the dialog scenes could have been cut down just a little bit.

But that is only minor complaints, because this is without a doubt one of the best action-films I have ever seen and if you're an action-junkie you should not miss it or just if you want to watch a damm entertaining movie in general.

Hollywood action-directors, watch and learn.

I got to admit, the first time i saw Hellraiser i didn't liked it to much for some reason. Mabye it was because as a teenager i cared much more about gore and scares than anything else in a horror-film. But as a i grew older, i began to pay more attention to themes and ideas and watching this movie for the first time in like 10 years, i can easily say that i like it a lot more now than i did before. This is acturlly a very well done and creepy horror-movie.

The film's look and atmosphere are just wonderfull. It gives it a very dark-fantasy/ Lovecraftian feel to it and the themes and ideas it explores, which are very disturbing and horrific makes the film even more effective. Now the film is far from perfect, it does drag in some places, the acting can be somewhat hit and miss and some of the special effects can seem a bit dated by todays standards. The gore-effects however i stil thinks holds up quite well.

Even tough i don't really consider this film a classic. I still think it's a very good and effective movie. It's definitely a must see if you are a horror-fan.

Videodrome is one of those movies that was not very succesful when it was first released and was panned by critics, but later gained a cult following especially among horror-fans, who see it as being one of the greatest horror-films ever made. So, do i share the same opinion? Well, yes and no.

James Woods plays Tv-programmer Max Renn(great preformance!) who one day discorvers a tv-signal which transmits a violent program called 'Videodrome'. Max sees potential in the program and becomes more obsessed with it. But it turns out that there is something else with this little program something which could turn out to be something that is much more disturbing and twisted than he would ever have imagined.

And then some weird stuff starts to happen.

It's a very clever and interesting premise, but unfortunately the film for me has some problems consirning it's story-structure, and the way it explores it's ideas can get a bit clunky. I also find the side-characters to be quite forgettable and one-dimentionel compared to James woods' character. But having said all that, where this movie really shines is within the subtext.

The film has a very frightning and thought-provoking messange on how the media has made us more desensitized towards violence and since the movie came out in the early 80's at the birth of the home-video market, it also ask some very interresting quenstions. Fx is technology going to make us even more desensitized, since it's making it easier for us to gain acces to violent materials? To me that makes Videodrome's message even more relevant today since we now have an easier way to gain acces to violence than we ever had before since the internet came along.

On the visual side the film is also quite stunning. The special effects are fantastic and very creative, especially for 1983, being all practicle, which is awesome.

You can tell that there is a lot that i found facenating about this movie and it is also a film that i can admire and appreciate as a horror-fan, but it's a film that is a bit hard for me to love, givin it's poor characters and story.

So even tough i found this movie to be a little over-appreciated by some people and a lot more stronger underneath than on the surface and is in my opinion far from David Cronenberg's best film, i do think it is a movie that is worth watching just for it's message alone. So 3.5/5 from me :)

The title alone pretty much says it. Set in Japan, involving the police and last but not least gore by the bocketload! Never since i saw Braindead for the first time have i ever thought I would see a film that was any gorier, but trust me i just have!! I think the filmmakers were pretty self-aware and just wanted to make the goriest film ever, in which i would say they succeeded. Only recommended for gore hounds though. Any normal moviegoer sould probaly stay away, since it's, well... very gory.

George Romero's zombie-classic that started it all and sat the rules for allmost every zombie-movie that followed, is not only filled with good suspense and scares but also with some great social commentary on the 60's and our society.

Ok first things first. I kind of enjoyed the first Machete, for it's gory violence, over the top action and cheesy one-liners, but this one goes way too overboard with all those elements. It tries to hard to be a grindhousefilm without acturlly being grindhouse. The action and the kills where boring and unmemorable and most of them felt like a re-hash of the first film. I know this film is supposed to be tounge and cheek and work as an homerge to exploitation cinema, but the problem is that Rodriguez camps it up so much, that it becomes more annoying than fun. Dispite all that, Danny Trejo is pretty good in his role as Machete and Michelle Rodriguez was nice to look at as all ways, but other wise not very good.

After seing Solaris, I said to myself that i will never watch another Andrei Tarkovsky movie ever again, since I found Solaris so dull and boring that I allmost turned it off. It had alot of interesting ideas and themes, but like I said it was dull and boring. So for some odd reason i decided to give Tarkovsky one more chance since I thought he had potential as a director. So going into this movie I expected the same boring and dull experience like Solaris. After seeing Stalker I can easily say that I was pleasantly suprised.

This is a very haunting, beautiful and often poectic film about a group of three men who sets out for a room that can grant your deepest desires known as 'The zone'. And what follows is a very surreal and dark journey into the subconscious filled with a lot of philosophical quenstions about life, the human condition, science and religion.

Andrei Tarkovsky's directing is absolutely stunning. It gives it a certain feel and atmosphere that I can't really describe unless you have seen the film. And unlike Solaris, Stalker had in my opinion a very well executed story, great performances, interesting and deep characters and very well written dialog.

Now this film will not be for everybodys tastes. The way it's directed may put some people of, since it uses a lot of slow panning shots and a little amound of editing, that will make the film seem slow for a lot of people. And since it's running time is 2 and a half hours, you have to go in with caution, because if you're not going to be as pulled in by the films atmosphere and directing like i was, you will have a very painfull experience. But if it does draw you in, you will probaly have one of the most unique movie-experiences in a long time.

Personally I was absolutely facinated by it and to my suprise, those 2 and a half hours went by a lot quicker than I expected. And when that happens, it only proves that the movie has sucked you to it's world.

So, I highly recommend Stalker, but i cannot promise you that you will love it, you might even hate it.

This ambitious epic of a film by the Wachowskis is probaly one of the most polarazing movies in recent years, where one gruop of people have called it one the biggest masterpieces of our time and another group say it's a pretentious piece of garbage. Personally, i am more in the middle on this one.

First of, the increadible amount of scope and detail in this movie can not be denied as being really impressive, as well as the ideas and themes that it tries to explore, such as reincarnation, freedom, slavery, life and death. All the preformences are really good and the special effects and set-pieces are excellent, but the problem I have with this film is the narrive.

The movie is told through 6 multiple and interconnective storylines that spands
through six diffrent time-periods. The first one is set in 1849 on the Pacific Islands, the second 1939 in Edinburgh, the third 1973 in San Francisco, forth 2012 in London, fifth in 2144 in the city of neo-Seoul, which is run by a totalitarian police-state and the final 106 years after an unknown apocalypse. I am not going to go into detail what they are all about, other than that they all have some short of a connection to each other.

As much as i love that concept, the narrive is the main issue here. I did not think any of the stories where as interesting as they could have been and most of the characters i didn't really fealt much for as i sould. The film also swifts to quickly between the stories, which does that the stories themselfs losses their focus and does not become as well structured as if there where longer transition between them.

Dispite all my complaints and problems i have, the film stil managed to keep me entertained and engaged becuase i really admired the Wachowskis for what they where trying to do with this movie. With a budget of around 102 mio dollars, it's a very brave move and even tough it wasn't as well executed as it could have been in my opinion, i still could't help but a feel a little impressed.

So do i recommend Cloud Atlas? Yes, but only to people who are willing to go into it with an open mind and with a bit of caution, since this film is almost three hours long. You will probably either love it or hate it or come out with the same feeling as me. But no matter what, it is a film that demands a viewing at least once.

Even though I personally found this movie to be a bit overrated, since the humor didn't really worked for me the entire way through and at the same time found Jona Hill's character to be unlikable and annyoing, I still enjoyed it for it's funny premise and the other performances especially from Micheal Cera and Seth Rogen

Not as funny as I had hoped, but a decent comedy overall.

Is some of the effects a bit dated by todays standards? Yes! Is the ending a little goofy? Yes!

But this really is a great movie, and an incredible achievement in terms of adapting a comic-book to the big screen. Not to mention John Williams' fantastic score and a charming performance by Christopher Reeve.

Definitely one of the best comic book-movies of all time in my opinion.

Even tough, there are a few things that you can point your finger at in this movie. Such as the acting and it's nonsensical story(Which I acturlly think, was kind of the point) This is one of those movies, that just has an odd quality to it. For my money, this was one the most unique movies within the horror-genre I have seen for quite some time.

The film has a very dreamy and surrreal look to it, that is captured by beautiful cinematography and decent special effects, also not to mention the haunting atmosphere, which is an absolute delight.

It will not be a movie for everybodys tastes, but if you're a horror-movie fan, I highly recommend that you check it out, or if you're a person, that is just looking for a unique surreal experience.
