Ken Burns does a wonderful job on my favorite writer. The picture of Clemens in drag is priceless.

The subject is difficult since the men sit around for 2 weeks waiting to be massacred, but I found this telling to be surprisingly good. Crocket is especially humanized, saying he never wore a coonskin hat until after his portrayal by an actor. He serenades both sides at one point with his fiddle. Bowie is too sick to live and we see him struggle to button his vest as he waits for Santa Ana's soldiers to come to his deathbed with pistols loaded to take a couple of the enemy with him.
