Terrible. One of the earlier slasher movies, but by no means essential, despite what it may have done for the genre. Plot is boring, lost interest way too quickly.
Kills were decent though. The constant zoom shots were distractingly bad, but maybe that's just me.
Ending was awful as well; I would have been very annoyed if I was enjoying the movie up to that point only to be shown that disaster of a conclusion.
I thought I was in for a full length movie based around what happens in the first 20 or so minutes, and I was okay with that.
But I didn't like how the film moved on, seemed all over the place and the impact was lost. There was a great chance to salvage the movie with the ending, but the filmmakers backed away from the original ending that Kevin Smith had wanted. Honestly, the film would have been immensely better had they went that ridiculous route.
How it originally ended:
The trumpets really did signal the Rapture, and things go crazy with the religious psychos exploding/disappearing (not sure which is implied) and an angel with a sword showing up. I know it sounds crazy but the movie was a mess by then anyway and needed something to spice it up.
Was quite surprised, thought it was a very decent slasher. I watched the uncut version as I heard that it had all the good gory scenes, and they were pretty good.
I actually saw the remake first, which I thought was... bad, so coming back to the original was much better. Also, indirect spoiler:
I had no idea that the remake changed the outcome, I thought it was a complete copy. So yeah, I was kind of surprised by this movie's ending for maybe the wrong reason. I'm not exactly sure which I preferred. The original's reveal seemed underwhelming, whereas the remake's seemed too forced (but slightly more interesting).
I got a real insincere vibe from it through the first act, like the film makers weren't really trying at all to make a good horror.
It did seem to pick up a bit towards the later stages, but the design of the demon was very underwhelming, don't know what they were thinking. The idea touched upon later in the movie was something I was actually interested in and was executed quite well.
I predicted the ending (and it was cheaply done), nevertheless, a decent modern horror but with some big drawbacks on some of the major elements. Some good scares too.
Brilliant. Also really enjoyed the inclusion of the... well, you'll know what I'm talking about if you've seen it yourself. Caught me off guard and actually worked well with the serious nature of the movie.
Dunno why this one is regarded so highly, I saw nothing of particularly good quality. It was pretty damn underwhelming, just came across as an average movie (didn't hate it though).
I see that people here are giving good feedback on the music and I'll agree on that, built up the atmosphere quite well. Though at times the music was ridiculously jarring and unsuited.
It was good. I liked the performances by Rourke (first time I've seen him in one of his earlier roles, and he looks completely different) and Henriksen.
Felt underwhelming towards the end though, as if it wasn't thought through.
Whilst it didn't scare me, it did evoke a lot of anger because of how evil the characters in this movie were. I wanted to step into the movie and punch them all in the face.
So in some way, the film was a success since it got such a reaction out of me. Tense at times, maybe a little too long, and a conclusion that disappointed me, mainly because I had built up in my mind what Rosemary was going to do, and... she didn't.

Surprisingly I wasn't bored and got into it. I thought the actors did a pretty good job, and it got tense.People here are disappointed because they're going in expecting too much. Just think of it as any other horror film.
Also, I watched the third movie in the series before this and I thought that order was much better.

Really good, one of the happiest endings I've ever seen. Dunno if I could ever watch it again though, it was a depressing ride up until that point.Movie comment on Red State

I can't believe that there are fans of this. Awful movie, and I've seen it recommended as a good horror.Horrific soundtrack, terrible writing, worthless characters, just bad in every way. I regret watching it.

The '80s broke through into the '90s to put this one out there, and I kind of liked it. Silly, but fun.Towards the ending they pulled off one of my most hated tropes, so it loses points for that.
