The book has to be better than this! It's just one bloody battle after another. Someone should do a remake; this could be a fascinating story told from the Navajo point of view.
Lust in the Dust; so bad, but in a good way; legendary cast overacting like crazy, a beautiful Jennifer Jones playing a teenager at 27; sappy dialogue.
The DVD that I borrowed from the library is subtitled in French and Spanish, but not in English; nor is it captioned.
Boo,hiss. I remember hearing it many years ago, but I wish I could at least read it now.
Sophia Loren and Anthony Perkins give good performances and it's beautifully shot, but the pacing is too slow, especially at the beginning and Ives overacts.
In 2005 this movie was reported to have been recovered by the Lobster Film company in France. It had been in a chest with several other of Melies' films which was sold at an auction. However, it later turned out that this was a different film, The Oracle of Delphi, also by Melies, which had been mistaken for "Cleopatra"
"The battle of Heartbreak Ridge was actually fought mostly by the U.S. Army's 2nd Infantry Division. The battle became infamous, after the Division Commander ordered the 23rd Infantry Regiment and an attached French infantry battalion, to stage a disastrous frontal assault straight up Heartbreak Ridge. Sergeant Major Choozoo mentions that he and Gunny Highway later joined the Marines after leaving the Army's 23rd Infantry Regiment." IMDB
I have loved Jane Austen for 50 years. A few years ago I read the book on which this series is based and I HATED it with a passion. There were some jarring moments here, but I must admit that I was entertained. Of course, the book has more information on the bathroom habits of the Regency period. hehe
This is drama, not comedy. There is nothing funny in this movie because they were not making a comedy. It is a statement about how a drunk, elderly, lonely, sick man is treated by health care professionals and I find it mesmerizing. Maybe one needs to be old and sick to understand it.
Romeo and Juliet retold melodramatically with colorful, elaborate sets and costumes- and no swordplay. It's visually interesting, but the plot is weak and slooow at times.
"Set in Ireland and notable today as the first movie in which John Wayne is clearly visible, a spectator at the steeplechase. He knocks the fence down and leads the other spectators toward the winning horse." IMDB
Melville once again gives us great style, though I'm not sure why he has the obvious fake backdrops and model train set. I prefer his earlier films over this, his last one, but it's still good.
Very moving, that is, the part I could understand. The captioning is poorly done with jumbled words, misspellings, and omissions. No subtitles at all on the DVD.
