Eagle-eyed viewers of the list may also notice a couple of apparent errors. Here's the rationale behind them:
---- Journey into Fear is included among Orson Welles' other films both in the book and on the list. Sarris points out in the filmography published in the book that it was "signed by Norman Foster."
---- Viva Villa! is included in Howard Hawks' filmography by Sarris, although he points out that it was "completed and signed by Jack Conway."
---- In the case of One Million B.C., included in D.W. Griffith's filmography by Sarris, the author writes: "signed by Hal Roach, but reputedly directed by Griffith)."
Thanks for the corrections jgwr and apologies that I've taken so long to act on it. Waltzes from Vienna has now replaced The Grand Waltz on the list.
You are also correct that The Desert Hero is not a Keaton film, although it is listed by Sarris in the book. Since he offered up no justification for the film's inclusion there and since it appears to be lost anyway, I've gone ahead and removed it from the list.
As for the other Keaton and Chaplin shorts.. it's true that they did not direct most of them but they are included by Sarris in their respective filmographies and I see no cause to remove them.
Obviously more well-known as "Don't Look in the Basement," which should be credited as an a.k.a. title here at the least, and which would make it less of a chore to find the film in the search engine.
Considering its subject - as well as the fact that it's animated - I'm surprised this doesn't have more checks. In any case, it's a one-joke short that's not particularly clever. I guess it's alright. Here it is:

Surprised that this isn't on any official lists. Anyway, it's a pretty decent film, one of the stand-out Chabrols that I've seen.Movie comment on Rabbit's Moon

Perhaps it's dark because its set entirely at night?Anyway, I thought it was excellent. One of the most intensely creepy horror movies I've seen in years, actually. The dialogue stinks a bit though.
