Absolutely incredible. An exhausting, somber, grim war movie made with some of the best talent on all fronts especially the cinematography done by the absolutely brilliant Roger Deakins
ok i don't know what some of the people commenting here expected or watched. someone calls it a failure as a ""batman"" movie. wut? someone says it fails to say anything about capitalism?? HUH???
spoilers it's about a man's descent into madness but portrayed beautifully as someone whom society, people, life and loved ones failed miserably and how someone who was already cracked completely broke down and became a product of their circumstances.
INCREDIBLY depressing and deeply moving, the film executed the theme it wanted excellently. it's not about capitalism or the evils of it, it's not about society, it's about how someone could very realistically be so crushed by the weight of their circumstances that once they see life as endless misery, it turns into a comedy of errors
Script is somewhat predictable but there's definitely some twists in there that I didn't expect. Some real feels at certain points. The world is incredibly well realised and the score is on point
It's one of those kids movies that you wouldn't be ashamed to go to if you're an adult. It's got some dirty jokes in there too. Quite entertaining and enjoyable. I recommend watching if only to see Pokemon come to life in a non-2D medium
an incredibly awful story with some really cheesy and badly written dialog and a lot of moments that just don't work propped up beautifully by some of the best CGI I've ever seen, some really cool cinematography and a lot of really entertaining action and set-pieces. was a fairly good watch but don't go into it expecting something cerebral. this basically felt like someone gave James Wan a blank check and told him to make a movie that sells and he just had a lot of fun making this movie and it shows
i think a lot of people missed some of the motifs of the film and are not taking too kindly to it. here's one big thing most people have missed when i read talk about this film.
the final scene in the "basement" of the lighthouse is supposed to look like the inside of a fresnel lens which is what a lighthouse uses to focus light across distances. this is the reason the "alien" is passing everything through a prism, because that was it's first interaction with this new unknown world
i suggest people who didn't like the movie watch it again and try to pick up more closely on a lot of the themes the story uses especially the "cancer" theme and you might enjoy it more
Entertaining but the plot falters in a few places and sometimes the pacing seems off. Still VERY enjoyable. QT is still the master of character building and tension.
A good movie, well edited, shot, REALLY well acted and very sobre and absolutely aware of the subject matter it handles and does it with grace, dignity but is still VERY powerful.
inside job but way more personal. actors do a great job, movie is directed well enough that you stop thinking about it as a movie and see the actual story.
it's a mess but a somewhat entertaining mess. personally i thought it was decent but could have been so much more. weak characters and motivations abound though and some things just don't make sense.
I'm no SJW but the female character was so goddamn bad it turned me off the entire movie. In other aspects it was pretty neat but I wish it had focused on the lead and his battle instead of bringing a woman who was used purely for her sex
the first movie was great but i felt the action scenes were a little sanitary and it was a little obvious that they were stuntmen and in a real fight, they would be trying to actually hurt each other more.
this movie takes it all the way up to 11 and fucking nails it completely. there were very few places where i felt that it was a fight between stuntmen and was extremely brutal, visceral and enjoyable. this movie takes all this violence and makes it an art.
all the action cannot obscure the fact that this movie is a work of true art. where the director has done an amazing job of showing details, yet not jerking off to his own skills and letting the actors shine.
the performances are great and believable though some do make it a little cheesy. i appreciate how the actors actually had some diversity, not being only indonesian, something even hollywood movies fail to even attempt. this actually adds to the scope of the movie which is FAR bigger than the last one set in a single apartment complex.
the pacing is excellent with the right pauses for tension, the right amount of build-up and a grand and well-executed finish to the fight. not once did i feel the movie was too long but when it ended, it did so with grace and at the right time.
9.5/10 one of the best action movies to grace the history of cinema. watch it!!!
spoilerrific sidenote:
can we all just please appreciate how he made 2 already interesting characters 100 times more interesting by giving them an entire life of backstory simply by having her glasses smashed off her face? 2 minutes before they died? this shows that the plot may not be the best but the writing is on a level most film makers and critics only dream of achieving or watching
Enjoyed it enough but the second half is just stuff happening? Like there's no logic or sense to half the stuff going on and there's just this sequence of events that plays out. Felt so idiotic. And it's literally just Fanservice: The Extravaganza. And Daisy Ridley is decent as Rey but nothing too great.
for all the hype and great reviews this film was decidedly average. cliched, predictable and done-to-death are words to describe the plot. performances were serviceable and the technical aspects were reasonably well done.
there's nothing really great about this movie. personally, this is one of the weakest movies in the MCU. i definitely enjoyed avengers 1 more than this.
6.5/10
i'm pretty sure if edgar wright had directed this, it would have been more than just funny in parts
i'm very sure the ending twist was highly original for it's time but for me it has been spoiled to no end. doesn't stop me from appreciating it for the excellent piece of art that it is.
excellent performances, great directing, an all-round classic. though at this point, watching it will probably not shock you because the twist has been used too many times in too many movies.
over-the-top, cheesy and cliched are words that can be used to describe this movie. also applicable are hilarious, entertaining and FUN.
leave your brain at the door and simply revel in the stupidity and inane choreography of twisted metal and revving engines and you're pretty much in for an action-packed rip-roaring ride.
performances are perfunctory but the directing shines, without which the movie would have fallen apart. the director knew exactly how he wanted to shoot the movie and simply had fun with it. the actors too seem to have formed excellent chemistry over the years and it truly shows. the plot is truly utter nonsense and i completely forgot why exactly things were happening after a point.
8/10 suspension-of-disbelief a MUST
P.S. a beautiful tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end. REALLY well done
i like this movie more than birdman. says a lot about a movie when someone says that.
a few plot missteps, a few questionable dialogue choices and a few weird camera angles is all the bad i can say about this movie. in every other way, this was a fantastic movie, keeping you guessing all the while how the rest of the plot will turn out. this movie was one of the first hindi "deconstruction" movies i have seen and i hope is not the last.
the best part of the movie would be how much i laughed. for a movie this grim and grimy, there was a good amount of comedy which made me laugh more than most "comedy" movies.
a great plot with great direction, supplemented by great acting by ALL involved.
very stylish but equally ridiculous. the movie was made purely because the director wished to make it so. and that's certainly not a bad thing.
acting performances by all are excellent though at times you have to wonder how they managed to deliver those lines through at least 1 take because the dialogue at times is really bad.
the plot doesn't really go anywhere other than the whims of the director. it just begins and ends. it's kinda poignant when you think about it since the movie too has a moment where it talks about how time is the only real thing we know but unfortunately it makes for a less than satisfying movie.
the visuals and directing are excellent as expected from luc besson. however ridiculous the premise and the plot, he doesn't let up for even a second as every moment is crafted with passion. which sadly was kinda wasted on such a mediocre plot.
entertaining but it's really upto one's taste. personally it wasn't all that bad. if you enjoy campy one-time-watch sci-fi weirdness, you could do much worse.
great time travel film with excellent performances and technically sound. the plot was highly predictable but everything made sense and tied together very nicely. the various little clues left behind by the characters were also something to keep pondering over, long after the movie was over.
some weak acting and a few plot holes and some cheesiness.
but otherwise a very well written gripping conversation. the screenplay and the direction were fantastic. the characters all seemed very real and believable, each with their personalities and prejudices.
9/10
a movie that should be shown at film school with the caption, how to write good dialogue and characters
ps: a lot of people seem to be hung up on the christianity aspect. i say live and let live. what's so wrong about a fictional movie telling you that the important thing is not the story but the message?
