Just a word of advice: avoid the dubbed version like the plague. I watched it with dubs and the voice acting ruined the film's tone and I didn't like it. Years later I watched Oldboy again but with subtitles only, and it was every bit as good as intended to be.
Incredibly well made, beautiful (there is just something more satisfying about raw film than digital over-processing), and dutifully faithful to the book (which is densely layered and insightful). It simply doesn't deserve the hate.
I can see why people like this, really like it in fact, but its not really my kind of film. There also wasn't even any conflict in the whole story, which is the #1 thing a story is supposed to have.
