comments saying the original 1954 version is better may not be wrong, but this one has a John Williams soundtrack; always a win

"Christopher finds those [operas] too long." "No, I don't." "Well, nobody blames you. It shouldn't take six hours to tell a story about a magic ring." - this joke made me yell-laugh

I went into this thinking it was a hockey movie. It is not. And as an American with our own history of problems (Wind River was a similar experience, though I far enjoy watching that movie than this), I was wholly unaware of the issue regarding the Canadian Residential Schools. The characters fool you into thinking they are actual characters but only long enough for them to be show as simple caricatures; every stereotype you can think of is thrown in. The 'white savior' trope is utterly demolished at every turn, but then again, there is no savior in this movie. The hockey sequences in themselves are great, but ultimately they are unfulfilling because racism abounds. The best I can say is this may open some peoples' eyes to these issues so we don't repeat the same mistakes in the future or the present for that matter. Would like to recommend, but you'd be better off reading the Wikipedia page on "Canadian Indian residential school system". 3/10

Enjoyed the mystery in the movie and Katee Sackhoff's interactions with ARTI, but wasn't too satisfied with the ending. 3 stars.

Miniseries did not disappoint. The animation was excellent (my wife hardly watched but it was the one thing she commented on). Managed to extend content to fit 4 hours, up from 1.5 hours in the 1978 movie. Some characters and events are changed slightly but only those who've read the book thoroughly (like myself) will notice. Though the tone of the film is dark (much like the '78 film) it is not overly bloody (unlike the '78 film). My kids aren't old enough for this series but maybe in a few years.

Probably one of the more enjoyable and less controversial movies based on the Bible you're gonna find.

I've tried watching this movie twice (Edit: THREE) now and both times gave up. A beautiful film, but slow-developing in the area of plot. And because it's in Spanish, it is so tedious to catch all the imagery while trying to read the subs.

Had to read some Wikipedia articles to even know what was going on with the political/military stuff post-Spanish Civil War.

I think I'll take David Bowie and those awful muppets over this.
