I wasn't expecting much watching this because it's pretty clear nothing can top the original and there really is no point in redoing all classics just as an excuse to make money.
But I love the original so much, I had to give it a shot, and I really didn't see it possible to screw something so great...
So the CGI is really beautiful, that's for sure. And the songs will always be amazing. But that's pretty much the end of it.
You can pass through emotions with drawing that you can't with real live animals. The whole movie all felt flat and emotionless and just meh. I was so disappointed.
And why did they butcher "Be Prepared"?! Such a waste.
- such bad acting (apart from Matthew Fox, surprisingly)
- very, very LOOSELY based on the Alex Cross saga (how James Patterson could even allow such a terrible scenario)
- why they had to write off Samson's character to replace it with a white partner (and a damn stupid one) is still beyond me
As a fact, I actually really loved the movie. It is funny and witty and the acting is perfect (major kuddos to Seth Meyers and Busy Philips). And Kate is a lot more sympathetic in the movie than in the book.
That being said, I am actually a bit mad at the changes they did, the biggest one being the disappearance of Candy and the fact that they gave Candy's storyline to Momo. Both were great characters and I feel like they kinda destroyed both at the same time.
They also changed the Kate/Jack relationship a lot and avoided the whole part where Richard leaves her. I know you can't always transpose all the book on screen, but still, that was a lot that was put aside. And they changed the whole ending (Jack and Allison?!?)
But as I said earlier, it is still a great funny as itself. Just forget that it's related to the book.
Wow. After the raging critics, I was waiting SO much more of this movie. It's not really horrible, but so predictable, not scary, sort of stupid sometimes. It still occupied my time on the plane. Meh.
I really can't stand Russell Brand (to be honest, he gives me the creeps) but it was still a very enjoyable movie. Fun and moving. Not the best role for Jennifer Garner though. Helen Mirren is perfect as always.
I really can't stand American movies showing off an imaginary Paris, that was TOO MUCH. And that annoying fake French music? Ugh.
Other than that, well Woody Allen made a Woody Allen movie.
It felt like watching two different movies. One from the 2010s, one from the 1970s. One was entertaining while the other one was like watching the dream of a crack addict. And it creeps you out.
I still don't understand where James Wan tried to go with this movie. o_O

@KabutoHunter"that train (which does barrel rolls from hitting a lightweight Toyota pickup; that was pretty hilarious)"
LOL. I thought the same thing. I actually thought the pickup was a real part of the intrigue, since it seemed to be magical or something.

Dude, Robert Downey Jr. He is awesome, as always, and is the main reason why this movie is funny. But all in all, the movie is pretty decent.Showing items 1 – 25 of 41
