Ricky Gervais is capable of brilliant comedy and of speaking truth to power, but a lot of his jokes here were at the expense of people in vulnerable positions in society, without seeming to have a deeper point than pure shock value.

The worst plot twist I have ever seen in any film ever. I actually want to "spoil" it for you now so you don't get as angry as me when they finally reveal it, and then play a flashback sequence to all the supposed clues they left throughout the film to foreshadow this tesco value deus ex machina nonsensical excuse to patch a gaping plot hole that didn't even need to be there in the first place. I'm angry. I'm violently angry now and I won't be held responsible for my actions as a result of seeing this film.

2004: Matthew Holness stars in a comedy show as a horror screenwriter whose work relies on the most tired, tiresome horror clichés imaginable.

I don't think this style of comedy has aged very well. Groucho carries a reputation as one of America's greatest wits, but the constant bombardment of puns becomes numbing, especially when only a few of them are really creatively clever. Yes, "seal" sounds like "seal" that doesn't mean mistaking one for the other is funny.

I much preferred the 1934 version to this one. That film told the story in a simpler and more effective way, with less shrieking and syrup (pancakes aside).

Last week I watched Hello Dolly and thought I had seen the most colourful film of all time. This week I watched Easter Parade.

I hope the Fine Brothers will file a lawsuit considering that Herz Frank stole their "Kids React" idea decades before they even had the opportunity to think of it.
