A pretty humble film about the depressing life of a debt collector. Acting, camera work and a plot that could really only work as a short feature indicate the director's inexperience, but there is something very likeable and confident about the film. Lovers of downbeat, grimy 70's cinema will certainly enjoy this.
Very gritty flick about a nightclub entertainer's desperate bid to get the money that he owes some mobsters. A lot of great shots of early 60's Soho, and some very distinctive local colour (helped along by the fact that the protagonist is both a Northener and Jewish). Seek it out if you like grim British gangster films.
Not more melodramatic than, say, "Saving Private Ryan", "Platoon" or "Sgt.York"; who goes to war films for understatedness, anyway? This movie has a fair bit of sentiment, but manages to make this reinforce its main conceit - average guys on both sides being dehumanized and destroyed by the powers they serve - instead of trivializing it. A very atypical debut for Chan-woo Park, but his visual flair and humanist perspective are present and correct. A very impressive movie.
Delightful underrated screwball comedy. Shades of Sam & Dianne in the chemistry between Cagney's womanising shlub and Davis' prissy pseudo-sophisto. Always nice to see Eugene Pallett, as well.
Not an easy movie to watch, but give Friedkin this: out of all the 70's New Hollywood mavericks, he is the one guy whose work has actually become even more abrasive with age.
Not every joke falls flat, and it's sort of worth it just because of the insane amount of cool cameos (ooh look it's John Hodgman!), but overall this is pretty lame. Neither Fey nor Poehler exhibit anything close to the energy that has made their television work such a delight. An agressively cop-out ending makes this hard to reccomend even as a family film/Sunday afternoon time waster.
Very toothless version of the Solomon Kane myth. Screws it up pretty bad by making the hero a bland white knight, as opposed to the not-at-all-likeable fanatic of the stories.
Not as good a bad movie as I expected. The YouTube highlights video basically gives you all the lols that the movie has to offer. For Cage madness, choose "Drive Angry In 3D Rated R" instead.

Some really neat animation for this strange, bittersweet Sendak adaptation. Well worth seeing.Movie comment on Killer Joe
