There might be performances that equal James Stewart's, but this is arguably the best performance ever captured on film and George Bailey is one of the greatest characters ever. I love this film so much.
An interesting film that asks some interesting questions. However, I personally found the film's formal elements (cinematography and editing particularly) to be kind of functional and sort of ugly, or at least bland. Happy for someone to explain otherwise as I would much rather appreciate this film as much as everyone else does than not.
Can I check this if I've seen the 4 part TV version, or is that cheating?
Upvote if you think I can check it, Downvote if you think I shouldn't check it. Thanks.
could have been a great 30 min episode of a horror anthology series. instead it is drawn out and manages to feel bloated at 90 mins. very disappointing.
i really didn't get or enjoy this. maybe it was a failing on my part but it all seemed inconsequential and the choice of camera positioning felt arbitrary. It all added up to nothing for me.
great idea / interesting topic, but does drag on a bit toward the end. Tries to manufacture drama from a big standoff between Mark Patton and the scriptwriter but it feels a little contrived and when the confrontation happens it's a little underwhelming.
In the vein of quadrophenia and Northern soul. Another film about young angry boys getting angry and shouting and then crying a bit and then fighty. And then things go disastrously wrong and that makes them even more fightier and angrier.
I'm sure some people find this kind of masculinity really fascinating, but I find all these over the top dramatic histrionics a little bit silly and pathetic.
Who cares, really?
Did anyone else find the close ups on her tits during the rapey scenes a bit problematic?
And...
I hate to be that guy, but I saw the twist a mile off.
Big fan of the show. Was sceptical about how it might translate to a movie.
It is consciously cliched. At times meta about it. But it was done in such an artless manner. Constantly broke the cardinal rule.of cinema of telling, rather than showing us. I'm not expecting citizen kane, but c'mon! Cinema is a visual medium and if characters are explaining plot/ their motivations all the time then that's just lazy writing and directing.
Crucially it wasnt funny. Except for the interviews. But we didn't need a film for those. Just a bunch of new episodes would have been fine
Oh well. I've probably spent longer writing this comment than they did writing the movie.
