Should be on the TSPDT 1,000 Noirs list by now, as this one is so much better than many of the fellow neo-noirs that have been added to that list lately.
Indeed, flaiky! Phenomenal tunes in this one, and just a wonderful film overall. I know Vincent Gallo is a divisive personality (more so off-screen, but maybe on-screen for some as well?), but this reaches another level of greatness for me when he enters the picture.
Wow, Bo Burnham has made something pretty special here. With major help from Elsie Fisher as Kayla, a wonderfully drawn and relatable character, my favorite performance so far of 2018.
Shazaaaam's comment is on point - though in addition to Haggis, you really have to mention David Simon, this is another great piece of writing from him.
That ambient Oneohtrix Point Never score...really dug it, essential for this particular film, too. Didn't quite love the film as a whole but it was an effectively anxiety-ridden, grimy acid trip for sure.
The ending is a bit rushed, but I really enjoyed the slow-burn lead-up to it. Kirsten Dunst was a standout. Good Lord, the sexual tension in this film...
Yeah, the mostly positive reviews for this one are baffling. Coming from the director of The Strangers, I didn't expect much but yeesh, this was pretty damn poor.
