So "Domino" is one of those movies where I went into and thought I'm gonna hate it. Turned out, it surprised me a lot.
I'm not a huge fan of the 2000s Tony Scott. His style is unique but pretty exhausting to watch and his movies go on for too long to really enjoy it in the end.
While this movie is not overly long it's still too long for this style. There were some episodes
like that Jerry Springer scene
that had me wondering what it was all about but that also comes full circle in the end.
The rest of the movie kinda worked surprisingly well. The actors were pretty good, the story was very interesting and kept me going; in the end it just all worked for me and gave me a good feeling in my guts. It's not a perfect movie, maybe not even a "good" movie, but for me it was enjoyable enough.
It sticks very very close to the book, except for one way too long escape scene with the third ghost.
The animation hasn't aged that well, but the camera, the style and the transitions were marvellous to look at.
To anyone saying the story or the dialogues were weak in this one: The story and the dialogue in this is basically 1:1 Dickens. They barely changed anything.
It's a good movie. I loved Hackman's acting, the feel of paranoia and the camera. The score is also just marvellous. I liked the theme of the conversation repeating etc, but what killed the movie for me a little was the fact that it was a movie. Don't misunderstand me, it was great, but it was just too long imho. I really would've loved this as a 45-minute-episode of an anthology series, but the 2 hours felt really dragged out a lot of times.
This is a very good example of great pacing and cinematography.
The movie knows exactly when to show things, when not to show things, when to explain and when not to.
It's purely awesome.
It's very lackluster and cliche, drags on for way too long... Somehow you can see some very good scenes though and it felt to me like it was a good director given a really bad script and trying to still do his best. Also, why does the killer look like
This movie is beautiful and I don't mean just the animation style.
There are so many memorable scenes, some are more relatable to one person, some more to another person. I think everybody who ever had struggles growing up and learning to understand the world can relate somehow with this movie.
No emotion, no soul.
Just one of these plain colorless remakes that are made because executives said so.
Why are there so many of these movies and why do people keep watching them?
This movie makes no sense at all. From start to finish, the whole premise. Not just some plot holes, the very essential core of the movie itself is a plot hole.
I thought the first 30 mins were really amazing and marvelous. Sadly it lost its momentum after that, when it dropped the Detective-vibes and became this weird arms-dealer-secret-service-conspiracy-story.
Wow, we reached the point where the animals start to talk and while the consistency with the previous films was always very vague in the Air Bud franchise, now they are just downright kinda retconning while not retconning.
Oh and the villains now... wow, this franchise is going somewhere hahaha
