As subtle as a brick. Not in a good way.

The new one is now updated at the website, not as many changes as last year, as to be expected I suppose, and I haven't worked out if I'm up or down from last years.

I know the year is only 10 days old but come on already, we want the new list.

The website says sometime in Jan/Feb, so I expect we'll be waiting a fair few weeks longer.

Hurumph.

It's been quite a while without any news, updates etc, you guys aren't throwing the towel in are you?

Please say no & give us fans, of your wonderful website, something to tell us you're still out there, raring to go forward with this brilliant project.

Quite honestly gobsmacked by this, I mean I know it's Lang and you expect quality but this really did hit me hard.

What an achievement, the scope and ambition, the cinematography, composition, story-telling and spacial awareness. Lang creates fully realised worlds full of heroism, fantasy, revenge and wrath - I loved every minute of this, bring on the second part.

5 up! Get in!

I truly thought my tally was down this year, nice to be surprised.

I'm down on the update as well, not exactly sure by how much yet as I need to do a final count.

@elephantman - thanks for the link, for some reason the link at They Shoot Pictures keeps bringing me back to the old list but I'm sure they'll sort that soon.

My stomach is still flipping from that final scene. Haynes finds horror in the everyday, normal world and shines a light on the terror of modern living. Brilliant film, a must watch.

Woo-hoo! Finally reached 400 with 'Story of the Last Chrysanthemums' what a fine way to mark the achievement.

Simply the finest series about the wonder of cinema from around the globe that anyone has dared to make. Superb!

Woo-Hoo. I'm up 4 films. First time that has ever happened, I usually lose out every year. Love that Withnail & I has got some love.

Some people just miss the point don't they? This is a film about the awakening of the human soul, the dawn of curiosity and imagination and artistic expression. A superb film with the beautiful Herzogian flights of fancy that somehow knit his wild tangents together.

I have to disagree with you there Mightyspark, people like your good self may describe the list artsy because, as you see it as a list that describes 'movies that primarily focus on artistic quality rather than entertainment.' but clearly that wasn't how people were using the term in this comment section, it was used in a derogatory fashion, terming artsy as somehow snobbish and elitist and anyone that likes this list as the same.

I tend to agree with Wise Jake on the word artsy, when he states that it really doesn't mean anything, you either like these films or you don't.

It was also rather unfair, and a bit blinkered of you to castigate anyone that sees this list as more entertaining than yourself, could I suggest that says something more about yourself rather than the people you judge? I'm thoroughly entertained by these films, some of them more than others, some of them require more concentration, others are frivolous, others are funny, others are just plain awful but the majority are brilliant. How on earth is discovering different cultures, eras, directors, genres and actors not entertaining?

I doubt many directors get a personal thrill out of making a film, as you put it, that is 'more focused on objective and technical qualities rather than popcorn factors'. Where's the fun in that? If that's what you're seeing in these films and you're just going through them as to tick them off, then can I suggest your heart really isn't in it?

I feel nothing but shame, I've seen 1 on this list. I must rectify this at once.

There's something lovable about these boys, you've watched them grow, become fathers, shed their youth and still they act out this infantile hilarious spectacle. No wonder Steve O looked as if he couldn't believe he was still doing this shit.

It's brilliant in short, I hope they continue and we get to Jackass 2063: The Son of Jackass as promised in the first movie. :)

A stupidly addictive genre film made by someone high as a kite on the myth of the western. Loved it but felt unclean afterwards.

One of the most original pieces of film I've ever seen, totally bizarre and very addictive.

Loved it. 4 hours just wasn't enough.

This list is simply about exploring movies, any film fan worth his/her salt will see it for what it is; the greatest playground any inspiriing film nut could dare imagine.

In the past couple of weeks I have delved into the worlds of Anthony Mann, Satyajit Ray, Joseph Losey, Fritz Lang, Arthur Penn, Jean-Pierre Melville and Ingmar Bergman. Thanks solely to this almighty list I can learn about movies and from there move on and discover my very own film canon.

Nothing artsy about that, it's all generated from pure love.

Probably the worst film ever made? Possibly.

Any film that makes 'Three Men & A Little Lady' look life affirming and Shakespearean in comparison has to be a contender.
