Entertaining both for Zoey Deutch, who manages to make a greedy and sleazy protagonist endearing (and with the aside glances and narration pushing further her lack of morals, it's a feat!) and the combination of weird characters and absurd situations we can't help but laugh - robocalls are annoying, but at least they're not reminding us of debt through blackmail using personal information or intimidation that would make the Mafia proud!
Good action and effects, nice new characters, and has an emotional impact comparable to the first two. But shares a problem with Genisys
of throwing away estabilished mythology (though at least it's not to fuel a confusing plot!), even providing an opening scene death comparable to Alien 3.
Just as entertainingand hilarious as the original - and unlike what the writers did with Deadpool 2, it doesn't feel as much of a retread or tries to add things that undermine the fun. A highlight is Zoey Deutch as a scene-stealing dumb blonde.
Hiccup having to find his place for the third time, dragon hunters and a hidden dragon haven for the second... and yet it never feels like a retread. An emotional journey (seeing Toothless fall in love is both funny and endearing) with amazing visuals even if there's not a gut punch like the big character death in the second one, and the villain is a bit of a step down.
Claire Foy is impressive and the whole thing is well-made. That being said, jumping from the first book straight to the fourth makes things a bit hollow, even for those who have seen the Swedish adaptations. And Mikael, the second most important character in the series, has the expected results when Daniel Craig is replaced with a totally unremarkable dude.
Certainly not good - the plot and characters are thin and generic, the effects are at times dodgy (the climax, with two Symbiotes fighting in the middle of the night, is really hard to follow), there are boring moments - but it's watchable, mostly because of Tom Hardy's fun and often unhinged performance (both as Eddie Brock and the cavernous voice shouting obscenities on his head).
In an age where big budget action\horror\sci-fi is getting neutered, The Predator at least isn't watered down, bordering on exploitation film in its level of blood, swearing, political incorrectness and tasteless dialogue. Thus it entertains and is rarely boring, but certainly aimless, with weird plot developments (some of whom are contradictory to the rest of the franchise) and excessive attempts at comedy, many of whom fall flat.
The cast is likeable and the story holds your attention, but if any entertainment value is found, it's because of the movie's flaws: the characters are idiots, the situations are contrieved, the deaths are sparse while making Final Destination look realistic, and the tone is all over the place. By the time the inexplicable ending credits show up, you'd either have hated the movie or loved it for all the wrong reasons.
Fun combination of a slasher movie with Groundhog Day, featuring plenty of laughs, a few scares (though those who like bloody deaths will be disappointed) and above all things a great lead: Jessica Rothe is more than just a pretty face, and conveys well how her character goes from a total bitch to someone who you want to stop dying.
If someone thinks Star Wars doesn't live up to the title, Rogue One is basically a war movie in space - WWII in particular. Thus there's hardly any humor, but a lot of impressive battles driven around a nice espionage plot. Expands the series and also sets up the original movie - helps A New Hope's aesthetic is followed closely, while Edwards also shoots with the grounded approach he showed in Godzilla. Overall, a promising start to the Star Wars non-Episode movies.
The great cast helps the movie more than the underdeveloped and times generic plot. At least it's an easier watch than Batman v Superman, instead of being dour and drab like that one, it is colorful, funny and fast-paced.
(and while the music choices are often great, I could have gone on without "Seven Nation Army")
Much better than it seemed by the trailers. It's funny (Kate McKinnon in particular), the characters are alright, the effects seem like an evolution of the first movies. The plot drives much from the originals, but The Force Awakens proved it's not necessarily a bad thing. The references to the other Ghostbusters even add to the fun (specially the cameos by the original cast). Though nothing justifies what Fallout Boy did to the theme song.
Best of the JP sequels, lacking the stupidity and annoying characters that brought the other two down. Action-packed, scary, funny, and all the nods towards the original movie will make fans smile. And still proves that recreating dinosaurs is just asking for trouble...
There and Back Again is still a better title (though given how most of the runtime is around the battle, the new subtitle does make sense). Finishing the series makes it even more noticeable that two movies could be enough. But given it's the shortest Middle-Earth movie, action-packed to the point it (mostly) averts the slumps for the previous two, and even provides emotional scenes - touching deaths to the ending connecting to Fellowship of the Ring - far from a bad time at the theater.
Just because Batman Begins worked, doesn't mean every darker-and-edgier-superhero-reimagining will.
Sure, some things are done right - the action, most of the cast, Gwen Stacy's characterization and her chemistry with Peter, comedic moments such as the Stan Lee cameo. But the tone, specially in making Peter Parker an annoying rebel, just made me long for the lighthearted approach of the Sam Raimi trilogy. The unremarkable villain who provides the only unconvincing effects, and an overcomplicated plot with questionable decisions (oh, the webshooters who only serve to break at the worst time!) don't help at all.
As good as the first, if not better. Plot combines well action, comedy, and drama, and the visuals are some of the best in any recent animation. DreamWorks does their best work when they go deeper like this (instead of vapid comedies such as Turbo).
Certainly watchable, with fantastic visuals, and Angelina Jolie carrying the movie like few actresses could. But the script is uneven from the problems in humanizing a villain to point she's eventually the heroine - and of course, the inevitable comparisons to Sleeping Beauty.
While it has some fun moments and Chloe Moretz is still a delight, adding more violence and people being dicks goes beyond satire and ends making the film more unpleasant than entertaining.
Clichéd story and far from DreamWorks' best, but pretty visuals, a colorful cast of characters, fast pacing and some good jokes make for a passable experience.

Maybe leave Avatar for the 2020s list and replace this one with Iron Man? (after all, the MCU was the decade's top franchise!)Movie comment on Terminator: Dark Fate
