Great movie and as relevant today as ever. Showcases the arrogance, perversion, and intellectual bankruptcy of “enlightened” teachers who make it their mission to indoctrinate youth with their personal beliefs to tragic ends. We’ve not learned from this film.
This movie has the most nonsense per second of any film I’ve ever seen. For an hour and half not a single believable or rational thing occurs. But did I like it? Yes I did.
Incredible footage but this film is a ridiculous piece of propaganda. Having been to war myself, it’s hard to listen to this event being romanticized and trivialized with comedy, silly sound effects, and hokey hometown talk. War sucks
This movie is ridiculously underrated. It’s so good. When I watched it I thought “I can’t believe Geraldine Page should have win an Oscar for that performance”. But, turns out she did win Best Actress — well deserved. This one is a hidden gem.
Ironic this movie is based on a book considered to be progressively empowering to women because this entire plot is pretty degrading to women all around. Great cast, pretty good acting. I thought there were a handful of funny scenes and jokes but not quite enough for me to consider it a great comedy.
This one wasn’t for me. Too dramatic for a comedy, to silly for a drama. The black character tropes didn’t age well. Seems like there are a couple more famous characters modeled from ones in this movie.
Such as, Jaws from Bond films and Boss Hogg from Dukes of Hazard? I dunno, maybe.
Not that funny. Understand it’s supposed to be about not fitting during an awkward stage in life but it tries too hard to be shocking and ends up being clumsy and unrealistic. The characters are mostly one dimensional, cliche stupid parents. I guess I’ve just noticed that if you take a stupid movie and add some sexual shock or perversion and all of a sudden it’s critically acclaimed.
A film about a man flirting with pedophilia and a woman who finds it amusing. But this film wraps it up inside some hoity-toity philosophical pretense and presents it like it’s totally cool. But it’s not cool...it’s creepy.
I had high hopes going in. But what I saw was one implausible event after another and humans repeatedly making some really unrealistic choices. This really spoiled it for me as the events became more and more ridiculous. And they say Dr. Strangelove is the comedy version!
This powerful film wastes no time jumping right into the action although character development suffers for it. First half is pretty predictable but plot picks up when a false ending leads into a time travel scene. Ending really leaves you thinking...(should I go to the lobby? should i get myself a treat?)
Those that are complaining about the level of blood and gore and lack of a plot are missing the point of this film. This movie is not the story of Jesus but of the sacrifice he made for mankind. He had the power to stop it at any time but chose to follow through out of love. The movie gives us a chance to really reflect and contemplate the magnitude and implications of that sacrifice without distraction. The gore is not gratuitous and for our entertainment. It's just the horrible reality of the event.
Really liked this one...Jean Harlow's lines are great. She plays the movie like a comedy while Astor plays it like a melodrama. Somehow it works and I think this is an underrated gem.
Unique and eerie film. Doesn't fit the mold of a horror film but still invokes fear and anxiety just the same.
An occurrence with no rational explanation frightens more than almost any conceivable truth revealed. If you like it give Antonioni's "L'avventura" a try. It explores many of the same themes in a different style.
I watched casually and found the details of the plot hard to follow. For a movie centered on characters I thought it lacked character development and presented some very disturbing behavior in very matter of fact way. I agree that this film seems overrated and probably gets higher marks for some taboo content (IMHO).
BK delivers great comedy as usual but the special effects seem especially fascinating for the time period. This and the gutsy stunts really set this film apart for me.
