I respect what Panahi's going for, but I found the film tedious after a while. Unfortunately Netflix reveals the central 'twist' in their description, so that might have affected my experience.

I would suggest the Samuel Fuller doc:

Wonderful and unpretentious piece of realist cinema.

Now when I see Face to Face, I remember an old farce with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Dorothy Lamour. It's called The Road to Morocco. They have been shipwrecked and come floating on a raft in front of a projected New York in the background. In the final scene, Bob Hope throws himself to the ground and begins to scream and foam at the mouth. The others stare at him in astonishment and ask what in the world he is doing. He immediately calms down and says, 'This is how you have to do it if you want to win an Oscar.' When I see Face to Face and Liv Ullmann's incredibly loyal effort on my behalf, I still can't help thinking of The Road to Morocco."

Jimmy Stewart wipes the floor with the rest of the cast in a decent B western.

A lot of great elements, but honestly this film did nothing for me as a whole.

Last hour is by far the weakest, but the first half is so essential it doesn't even matter.

So, so painful. And to think this was during the depression.

Girls is pretty alright, this was pretty awful.

It's certainly unique and historic. And it's got Sterling Hayden. But I didn't really find it that entertaining.

Could be the best cinematography I've ever seen. Seems to not really connect with me at places, but wow, it's really painting with light.

Wow, all these performances were so aggravating and amateurish. This one did not connect with me at all, although I seem to be the only one.

Definitely did a double take when I realized Angela Lansbury was playing the trollop.

Wow this was really quite great, all you naysayers had me worried. Hepburn was wonderful, despite giving birth to hundreds of lesser manic pixie dream girls.

Really not that great. Faye Dunaway is pretty much wasted. In fact, everyone is wasted, even Chief Dan George. Plays like an extended comedy sketch with pretensions of political commentary.

I think you linked to the Dumb & Dumber animated series, not the feature film.
