My main issue with Olympus Has Fallen was that the violence was beyond gratuitous. I'm not averse to violence in movies as long as it's necessary to further the plot in some way but...
do we really need to see innocent bystanders being crushed to death by falling rubble? Do we really need to see a woman shot point blank in the head and then a lingering shot of her lying on the floor in a pool of her own blood? Do we really need hundreds of video game-style head shots, explosive blood spatter and all? Did the President's wife really have to die just to give some artificial "depth" to Gerard Butler's character?
All of this plus the extremely overly patriotic speech by the President at the end left me with an extremely sour taste in my mouth after this movie was over.
Great documentary about a very interesting man who has led a very interesting life. It does feel slightly bitty and doesn't really go into much detail but leaves you with the feeling that McCullin is a special talent, the likes of which don't come around very often.
I found this quite difficult to get through (a feeling that was obviously shared by a lot of the audience of my screening due to several walkouts). I realise there was a deeper meaning about the differences between good and evil and if there are aspects of goodness in every evil act but I didn't think the film was engaging, I didn't care about the characters and static shots of the scenery constituted about 60% of the film's runtime which gets tedious no matter how beautiful the scenery may be. This is the first film I've seen from Bruno Dumont and I'm not in much of a rush to see any others.
What has happened to Tim Burton? This really was not very good at all; the characters were paper thin and the plot wasn't much better. There were some funny moments that made me laugh and the performances from Eva Green and Johnny Depp were good, but the usually impressive Chloe Moretz was bordering on terrible here. The whole thing just felt very lacklustre.
I don't know what it was but there was something really weird about how the camerawork was done, it had the look of a music video...
It was a pretty average movie, but Leonardo DiCaprio is absolutely spectacular, especially towards the end. Probably not something I'd watch again any time soon though.
Some of the acting was a bit ropey from the three kids that weren't River Phoenix but still a great movie that could easily have been about half an hour longer.
I wasn't expecting much from this but it actually turned out out to be pretty good, probably one I'd watch again if I wanted something with a nice story that wouldn't take too much brain power.

An interesting twist on the "saviour teacher" genre which is mostly mediocre with moments of brilliance.Movie comment on Iron Man Three

Tonally inconsistent, badly paced and clunkily edited at times but still a lot better than Iron Man 2!Movie comment on Olympus Has Fallen

I feel like this film thought it was a lot cleverer than it actually was and I was left pretty disappointed.Movie comment on The Master

The visuals and performances were top notch, but I was left cold by the story so didn't particularly enjoy it.Movie comment on Limitless

It was OK, but there was WAY too much narration for my liking, I (nearly) always see excessive narration as a cop out by the script readersMovie comment on Taken 2

Average performances by average actors (excluding Colin Firth and Fiona Shaw obviously) in an average movie from an average director.
