I'm always a sucker for rehab movies for "degenerates", no idea why. Here's one great reason. The last hour of this movie is just non stop on your toe reactions. Absolutely well done. The main kid reminds me of Ryan Gosling - no idea why either...
I can't believe I am the first to be commenting on this documentary. This left both my friend and I speechless walking out of the theater. (It came out in 2013, and I saw it for the first time... in theaters in 2015). Not only is the message powerful and needs to be heard: girl's education and the importance of it but the filmmaking and storytelling of each girl's power, strength, wisdom at the age of eight through thirteen (yes I didn't get that wrong) is absolutely breathtaking. Each story has its own personality that matches each girl yet all stories scream the same message perfectly:
I found this to be an absolute beauty. The soundtrack mixed with McQueen's perfected long takes makes this movie a favorite of mine. Sex addiction is rarely shown in such darkness and for that alone, I loved it. Fassbender and Mulligan, two thumbs way up. I can't rave enough.
Tom Hanks' performance in the last few minutes of the movie made the whole movie worth watching. I enjoyed the film, not saying it was amazing or even Oscar worthy. Yet, it was a great story, felt real, no over exaggerations for the action sequences (which I loved). Enjoyable, yes. Phenomenal and deserving a nomination for best picture? Debatable.
Obviously DiCaprio's best film EVER. His crawl to his car during the clubhouse literally made my jaw drop - a rare occurrence. I cannot fathom what it took for him to act that way - his talent in that scene alone makes the film worth it. Three hours of pure craziness, in the best way possible. I wouldn't say it is my favorite film of all time, or even in the top 20, but it is a film you won't forget, that kind of reaction is priceless.
After I went out of the movie theaters, I was confused as to what I felt with this movie. I tried, desperately, to get into the character's head, but I couldn't. Whether it was the okay acting or the fact that it was a computer, I don't know. The concept is amazing, the mise-en-scene was phenomenal, everything else? Eh. I just couldn't get into it like I thought I would. A tad disappointing.
Truthfully, I was not blown away by it at all. It dragged on a little to much for me, and was sort of obvious that
Christian Bale and Amy Adams would "win"
. Of course, I cannot critique Bale or Lawrence on their performances, since they come full throttle every time, but the story line just... I don't even know.
I absolutely agree that Steve McQueen's camera positions, angles and movements were absolutely what made the film. The acting was good, but not oscar worthy; the story (albeit it a true one) showed the physical horrors of slavery perfectly; yet, the emotional? Not so much. It is the first movie I have seen that will be up for Best Picture, and I have a feeling there are much better choices out there.
Come on people, this was a horrible movie. The acting was so disappointing, especially from James Franco (who only a few years earlier did 127 Hours). It is such a beautiful idea that they ruined. So let's wait another eighty years and try again. Hopefully not have it end up like this.
I wasn't really moved by this film, and was somewhat disappointed. It never really went anywhere, but I guess that was the point also... And I love Jessica Chastain, but wasn't in love with her performance. She had some amazing scenes but I think Jennifer Lawrence definitely should beat her for best actress. All I really enjoyed was the raid and the last scene of her crying. The other stuff just didn't stick.
Tarantino never disappoints. I love his mix of the modern and the classic. He may be crazy, but he knows how to make masterpieces. Acting was utterly phenomenal. I was so happy to see Leo actually playing a bad guy for once. Christoph Waltz, there are no words to describe his talent. And Jamie Foxx, I was not disappointed with surprisingly. Amazing story, gruesome yet amazingly entertaining because of it.
Sure, it was probably one of the best romantic comedies I have ever seen. But how can it possibly be up for best picture, especially standing next to Lincoln and Argo? I absolutely loved the film for it's acting but in the end it was just another cute film
where one person is hung up on someone else and they realize their friend is the one they should be paying attention to, and they fall in love.
It's simplicity is phenomenal. I absolutely loved how there was no sexual contact needed to show the love they had for each other. From the first time they really looked at one another, I knew it was love. The story is one that I haven't seen told before, at least in a film, which made it all the more enjoyable. Some may say it dragged on, but I think the slower scenes showed the reality of the subject.
Anne Hathaway's best performance ever. It may have been overdone, yet what musical isn't? I found myself at some points wondering when it would be over yet as I look back on it, it was a beautiful film, unique to anything I have ever seen and an amazing story to tell. I just really hope it doesn't sweep in the Oscars, I don't think it's that worthy.
This was such an amazing film that I will never forget. The chemistry between the father and daughter was absolutely mesmerizing. Usually voiceovers annoy the crap out of me, yet the innocence of her character and her thoughts said were beautifully written. It somewhat reminded me of The Tree of Life, with a little more sense to it. Beautiful, just beautiful.
I don't get all the negativity towards this movie. Ben did an amazing job directing it and was in fact snubbed like everyone is saying for an Oscar nomination. I have watched seven out of the nine films up for best picture this year and I have to say this is definitely my favorite. Never a dull moment, like almost all of the others I have seen, I never thought to myself when will this be over. The story behind the movie is fascinating in itself and everyone who is saying Ben's acting was below par, think about who he was playing. CIA agents probably aren't that dramatic. Beautifully made film enriched with suspense.
Utterly phenomenal. I can't believe it doesn't have more checks yet. The acting was above and beyond, the soundtrack was great, and did I mention the acting? Need to read the book as soon as possible.
I think this is a masterpiece. There is really no other word for it. The cinematography, editing and directing are phenomenal to say the least. The acting is over the top in the best way possible. I just can't get over it's beauty.
I absolutely LOVED this film. It's directing, acting, and message were all unique and great. Throughout watching it, I just pictured Charlize in Monster and could not believe how versatile she really is.
And I absolutely LOVED that she did not have a revelation or something and become magically better. Because really, who does that?
Very realistic but at the same time very imaginative. Great film!
I am utterly shocked with all the negative comments towards this movie. It is by far my pick to win best picture this year! I was hooked directly from the start. If you are a true movie lover, you will fall in love with it's appreciation of film and when it all started. Left me breathless.
This personally was my choice to win for best picture oscar. I've seen all but Hugo and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (which I will be seeing before the Oscars). But I absolutely loved this film. I definitely think you have to appreciate art to enjoy it fully, but the meaning behind it was so spot on. Owen Wilson (who I never really liked as an actor) was utterly perfect due to the writing. Dialogue was amazing as well. I can talk on and on about this! SO GREAT!
A wonderful portrayal of silent film taken to the next level. It shows how much music can do for a movie! Amazing acting as well. It wanted me to desperately watch Singin' in the Rain.
