This is an incredible documentary. It doesn’t just report on it’s subject, but eloquently expands on why this story needs to be told, heard, and recorded for posterity. It plainly shows how the injustices of slavery continue to play out in modern times and rightfully allows black Americans to tell their own story of the American experience.
Lots of questionable choices in this doc. Much of the "facts" were not supported well and many of the "experts" weren't actually qualified to speak on the topics presented. There were many unethical activities being portrayed without interrogation too.
The Bicycle Thieves is a quintessential Italian Neo-Realist movie. Inextricably linked to Italy’s disarray following WW2, the movie is focused on the ways in which poverty is a vicious cycle that forces individuals to walk through the mechanics of living, even as they know there is little opportunity of escape.
Supremely uncomfortable to watch a 12 year old flirt and try to seduce a fully grown adult man. The movie is well shot and acted but the relationship is deeply troubling
I've always loved Makoto Shinkai's work and Your Name is a fantastic entry to his catalog. Like most of his films, it's concerned with the ways in which people stay connected across great distances and through great barriers, as well as the powers those connections hold. Where 5cm Per Second explored the ways we might reach out to someone from our past and fail to meet them, Your Name explores that same melancholic notion via dreams; we experience such deep feelings as we sleep only to find upon waking the feelings, faces, and experiences of our dream fall away from us before we can grasp them.
While I loved 5cm per Second, Your Name's ending is more satisfying, though both films leave your heart aching
