I'm leaning towards "Don't waste your time with this one".
There are certainly a few bone-chilling moments but the rest of the movie is like watching paint dry with a vhs tape effect turned to 11. Not worth it imo.
It's scary only because you can see so little from the bad image quality. The gimmick is 'fear of the dark'. Once you realize most of the time nothing will actually happen, it loses most of its scare factor.
Masterpiece of memedom. You just have to accept that this franchise is "superheros with cars" at this point and you'll instantly enjoy it so much more. Honestly, respect they were able to make a movie so self-aware, chock-full of oneliners and over-the-top action... Not sure what was going on half the time but laughed my ass of every minute of it!
Quite boring. You watch a guy selling weed for most of the movie and then it ends. Apparently there's some romance in it too. No story or characters to care about.
Typical action movie? I must be watching the wrong ones then, because this was worse.
First 15 minutes don't make any sense and serve as a romantic build-up and showcase for Alba and Statham's beach bodies.
After that he does exactly what the villain says "for the love of his life whom he met a few days ago". Three "impossible" kills, of course each one more impossible then the last one, each completed in 5 to 10 minutes without really breaking a sweat.
Yea, aside from constant cringing I really enjoyed it...not.
The first half hour was really boring and I had no idea where they were going with this, so I quit watching. But a day later, I decided to give it another shot while I was eating, and it turns out I stopped watching just before something big happened. From there on out, it was a very good movie. As a whole, it was far from perfect, but the road from zero to hero (well sortof) was really good. I like to leave football movies with a sense of inspiration, and I certainly got it with this one.
Don't know how i feel about the ending though. A shocking plottwist at the end seemed unnecessary here. If anything, i thought he'd run the asylum, striving to be a better doctor than Dr. Salt...
Very good movie! Really funny and thought-provoking. I mean, a gangsta robot?! How does someone even conceive that? That's f'ing brilliant!
Actually, with all the "Big Boys" (Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk etc.) trying to put the fear of God in us regarding strong AI, i was wondering how that would unfold. Turns out, i was thinking the exact same thing like Blomkamp. Something along the lines of a scared child-robot that has to learn from us humans (however faulty we may be ourselves). I loved the dramatic performance of Chappie. He's like a little kid in the big bad world, just trying to make sense of it all.
Admittedly, the music from Die Antwoord is not my style, but boy, was it spot-on for this movie. Really beautiful! Also, Die Antwoord gave good acting performances. I mean, they're supposed to be gangsta's, right? So a question to anyone criticizing them: "Was that not gangsta enough for you? Did you expect Oscar-worthy performances or something?".
So many people say this is sooo much scarier than the american remake, but i have to disagree. I didn't find it scary at all actually. Maybe because i already knew what to expect?
It's even downright confusing at times. So many characters! There were plenty of times i couldn't really follow who i was watching, because nearly all of them look the same! (yea, i'm a westerner) And there's the thing with the timeline. First we see the balding, retired cop with his 7 year old-ish daughter and then some time later Izumi is already going to high school?! And i'd say they're not too far apart, because the lady from the wellfare company was on tv.
Anyway, maybe i missed a few (key) things because subs didn't translate them, but i'd say the story is a mess.
Aaah, that granny scene was the best thing i might have seen in a (fantasy) movie in quite some time. But besides that, there's not really anything worth watching in this film. Besides Paul Bettany maybe, but his character was just stupid.
So what was the point of this movie? The arrival of Jesus II? Or was it an anti-christian movie? The upside-down cross, and "evil" angels, with black wings (lol?) possessing people (double lol?) sure made it seem that way. Since there is no mention of a hell or devil, why does God need an army of angels? To show off? Why would God even call off an armageddon because of some random child being born without further explanation?
Boy, there is just way too much ridiculousness in this movie. Besides that i'm disappointed they didn't do anything with the magnificent paintjob Bettany got. That was something that seemed interesting at first, but oh no, it's just a manual for some prophecy anyone failed to mention up until the end. What a shame this movie was.
Not a bad film, just not what i expected. If you tell me i can watch a Stephen Hawking movie, this is not what i would have imagined.
Too say it bluntly: this movie could have been about any ALS patient. It only really depicts the struggles of life for a person with ALS, not what Hawking makes Hawking.
What i liked about 'A beautiful mind' is how John Nash thought of his game-changing (see what i did there?) theories, and that is exactly what i missed in this movie. The sequence where Hawking looks in the fire and he has that brilliant idea is beautiful, but overall too short. Maybe they should have focused more on how he was before he got sick and then the struggles he faces with his academic work due to ALS.
But whatever anyone thinks of the story, i wasn't really watching Eddie Redmayne, i was just watching Hawking himself. That's how good he was in this movie.
i'm clearly not a fan of the genre. I thought it was a good movie, but ultimately a bit pointless, like just following a few people through their daily lives... There's no real ending to it, which is a shame, because i kept wanting it to go somewhere, but it never really did, which gave me a feeling it was a waste of time. Not a lot of funny parts, so it's not really a comedy like Wikipedia said. Maybe it doesn't really fit anywhere. The whole improvisation thing worked out fine, but there wasn't enough story to make it more than an OK movie.
idk if this movie was any different from the book (the story of Bilbo i mean), but it seems very unrealistic. Great action scenes, but what are the chances that nobody dies? Seriously, during the barrel scene there could have easily been an arrow that actually hit a dwarf. Or Smaug could've burned someone to death...
Also, the movie was a bit long. There was a lot of story in it, sure, but the only plot line that was strictly necessary, the one of Bilbo/Smaug, just seemed boring towards the end. The cuts between different plot lines didn't help in that way. Just too many screen time for Smaug trying hard not to kill Bilbo right away. I mean, seriously? If he wanted to kill Bilbo, that should've been done in a minute, but he just stalled and stalled...Talking feelings and all. There was no need to stretch it that long. Kinda took away Smaug's badass persona. Was also a bit stupid to walk into all of their traps. Expected more from a beast that slayed legions of dwarves and humans.
*A lot of spoilers ahead, but the movie is so predictable it probably won't affect you...*
This movie is just boring! It had such a ridiculous plot... From all the possible planets, they just happen to crash-land on earth, which they abandoned some thousand years ago.
For some reason, all creatures on earth have 'evolved' to kill humans. What? How could animals evolve in human-haters if there haven't been any humans on earth for a thousand years? And the evolution of all species on earth in a thousand years? I think it takes a whole lot longer than that to evolve, Shyamalan! That's just biology and Darwinism in your face!
Those mistakes aside, i didn't see much of a real danger on earth. Some baboons who were too slow to keep up with jaden and too afraid to cross water, a giant eagle, a tiger and some hogs. OK, the eagle scene was supposed to be dangerous...i guess. The only plausible thing that put Smith's son in danger was that bloodsucker. Also, what was up with the ice-age-overnight?
There was also no acting in this movie. No fear does not mean no emotion, Will! How is the audience supposed to feel for the characters if they don't even care?
To be fair, this movie was like 'Jaden Smith running around in the jungle and being a badass hero at the end'. The best part to me was the intro about the Ursa and stuff. Their origin story and the way people fought them at first would've been a much better movie!
