I will say this movie benefits from a second viewing. I saw Hollywood upon its initial release in theaters, and while I enjoyed it, after watching it a second time, I can say I love this movie. Brad Pitt steals the show, and he without a doubt deserves the best supporting actor Oscar. DiCaprio is flawless per usual. For those criticizing the film saying the it has no point, I disagree, the movie is unconventional in that its almost 2/3 set up, and its worth it, because the ending delivers big time. Also I love how the film is a love letter to 60s Hollywood, the references to other films/tv shows, the clothes, the cars, the cameos of 60s stars. The attention to detail is insane, I mean just listening to the radio ads playing while characters drove around Hollywood was fun. I could’ve honestly spent four hours in this world.

This movie is definitely not for everyone, and I certainly can understand complaints regarding the films almost 4 hour runtime and the potentially off putting de-aging effects. That being said this film is a master class in acting and directing. Pesci steals the show in my opinion, and it’s so great to see him on the silver screen again. The film is also a return to form for Pacino and De Niro, featuring their best performances in years (Shame De Niro wasn’t nominated for the Oscar). Of course Scorsese’s direction is top notch like always. Is this Scorsese’s best film? No. Is it better than Goodfellas? Not even close (I don’t think it’s trying to be, but that’s another topic). That being said this is one of the better films of 2019 and worth the praise.

It’s too bad this film isn’t getting much recognition from the award bodies, because it may be my favorite film of the year (Between this and 1917). Not enough movies like Ford V. Ferrari are made anymore: dramatic films with the budget of a Hollywood blockbuster. I will say the film starts off slow, but once we get into everything surrounding Le Mans it’s superb. Matt Damon was great and Christian Bale is getting seriously overlooked when it comes to best actor. Of course I have to mention director James Mangold (Cop Land, 3:10 Yuma, Logan, and now Ford V. Ferrari), who has firmly cemented himself as one of the best directors working today.

Very good movie and incredibly well acted. Obviously Driver and Scar Jo are fantastic, but what stands out even more to me are the supporting performances. Ray Liotta and Alan Alda were great and fun to watch. Yes the final argument between Driver and Johansson was incredible, but the part of the film revolving around Driver and the social worker is something I’ll never forget. Honestly, I don’t think it’s the best movie this year, but the performances are worth all the praise.

A movie with tons of heart. A true return to form for Eddie Murphy, and great performances by the supporting cast as well. It reminds me a lot of the Disaster Artist, but to be honest I found this film to be even better. I wish this movie got more awards love, but oh well. If you love movies/the movie making process, and you love feel good stories, this one’s for you.

Possibly the craziest film I’ve ever seen. I didn’t know how to feel walking out of the movie, my initial reaction was defiantly mixed. That being said, as I sat with the film, and really thought about it, it’s grown on me and I have to say I enjoyed it. The film is certainly not for everyone, and I totally understand any criticisms, but I would recommend it. Of course I can’t talk about this movie without mentioning Sandler, and he truly is masterful. In my opinion the best performance of his career, it’s a shame he wasn’t nominated for an Oscar.

This film would not have worked if not for the masterful performances of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Johnathan Pryce. Their performances carry the movie, as much of the film is based around their conversations; that being said, flash back scenes featuring a young Francis are not as enticing because we do not have Pryce or Hopkins drawing us in. Overall it’s a solid film, who knows how much of it is real, but if you view it simply as a cinematic experience, it’s quite enjoyable.

Possibly the best film of the year. While some may say that editing the movie to seem like one shot is a “gimmick”, I wholeheartedly disagree. This technique allows the audience to become fully immersed in the world, you feel as if your in the trenches, on the battle field, etc. Plenty of twists and turns, even moments I knew were coming based on the trailers still caused me to jump out of my seat. Highly recommend this film, and see it in theaters while you can.

The best action movie since Mad Max: Fury Road, maybe the best action movie since the genre had its heyday in the 80s and 90s. Although other installments in the series probably have better plots and stories, the amazing action scenes and stunt work make it the best Mission Impossible yet. Truly some breath taking sequences, I do not see how Cruise and Co. will be able to top themselves next time, but I'm sure they'll find a way.

After this movie ended I felt a little underwhelmed, however as time has gone by I find this movie has really grown on me. Robert Redford gives a great final performance and overall this movie just leaves you with a warm, happy feeling.

In a series with as many installments as Halloween its hard to have a story that is truly original or unique. Is this movie original? No, does it borrow heavily from the previous installments? Yes, but I still feel this is probably the best Halloween movie since the original. Despite some stupid scenes, the movie is enjoyable, well directed, and the little kid with the babysitter is hilarious, best part of the movie.

I am a huge fan of Queen and classic rock, so naturally I was extremely excited for this movie. It was not a perfect film, and as far as biopics, or more specifically music biopics go, there are certainly better, however I thoroughly enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody. Rami Malik gives the performance of the year, and for that reason alone you should check out this film. The concert scenes in this film are top notch, especially the Live Aid scene. See this movie on the biggest screen with the best sound system possible.

As my profile photo indicates, I am a big fan of Braveheart, so naturally I was very excited for this film. Is it a perfect movie? No, but it was very enjoyable. Quality performances across the board, the villain in this movie is INSANE, some may say its over the top, but I enjoyed the character. Not as good as Pine and Mackenzie's previous collaboration, Hell or High Water, but still worth a watch.

A truly great western, which we do not get enough of these days. Great performances across the board and once again Scott Cooper shows he is one of the best directors working in Hollywood today. Is the ending cliché? Yes, but its still a satisfying ending to a great movie that was really overlooked in 2017.

Amazing movie, as Christian Bale gives his first truly great performance. Initially the ending of the film left me a little underwhelmed, but I've grown to appreciate it and now I think its a very good finale. Its a movie everyone should give a watch if they haven't.

It took me a while to finally get around to this film and I am so glad I did. Possibly my favorite Fincher film, I would still say Zodiac is my favorite, but this one is close. Jesse Eisenberg gives an amazing performance, too bad he couldn't portray Lex Luther the same way. Andrew Garfield is probably the real star though, you empathize so much with his character. Also Justin Timberlake probably gives the best performance of his career, really going against type. Just a truly great film.

I have to say I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. That's not to say I didn't expect it to be good, I did, but the movie surpassed my expectations. Christian Bale gives a career performance and once again shows his versatility as an actor, Amy Adams and Steve Carrell also do a great job. I thought Vice was better and much funnier than McKay's previous film the Big Short. Definitely one of my favorite films of the year.

Honestly one of my favorite Cohen brothers films and probably the best true western since Unforgiven. Beautiful cinematography by Roger Deakins, and great performances by Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld. A great update of the John Wayne classic, dare I say better? Its too bad this movie didn't win as many awards as it probably should have.

I have to say, considering the rave reviews this film was getting, I was a little disappointed. It is definitely a well-crafted film with some great performances, a true return to form for Spike Lee, but overall I thought the film was just good, not great.

Definitely the best animated film of the year, maybe the best Spider-man film? I would still say Homecoming is better, but this movie rivals Spiderman 2 in terms of pure emotion. I loved the father/son dynamic and Miles' relationship with his uncle and Peter Parker. Great movie.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Tarantino fan, but, personally, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed by this film. I can totally appreciate why everyone loves it, but after that amazing first fight scene, I felt the movie went downhill. I understand why this film is great, it just wasn't for me.

This movie is horrible, it is poorly acted, and Hillary swank delivers a subpar performance. The actresses make the characters as annoying as possible, you root for the villains the entire time. The characters turn a bunch of strong female political figures of the early 1900's, and turn them into a group of cry babies.

Truly amazing film, just saw it for the first time and loved it. Everyone gives a fantastic performance which results in a film full of characters you care about and connect with emotionally. The warden may be one of the greatest villains in cinema history. The ending is great, ties everything together, finishes all the storylines, it is a truly happy ending.

Dallas buyers club should have won best picture. I loved this film, it was so emotional, and you're rooting for Matt's character the entire time. This movie provided a new and different perspective on the AIDS epidemic, and definitely warrants a couple more viewings. Really gained a whole new respect for McConaughey.

This film blew me away. I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I wrong. I was a huge fan of Connery before the film, but after viewing it I gained even more respect for him. He should have ended his career here. This is one of my favorites.
