people don't take the list seriously? oh just add like all the currently oscar nominated movies for best pictures. lolz now taking this list even less seriously, as if that were possible.
VVVVV great. now if all the 16-25 year old white males haven't seen the movie it most certainly will never make this list. cool. as if it weren't bad enough already.
so happy to see this! i have been sending emails and messages and making comments all over the internet demanding this an official list for like ever! so pumped! thank you!
"My recommendation: make the progress screen (with the IMDB tab first) the start page for iCheckMovies. It's still the best starting point to get to know the site."
i'm hard pressed to say that this looks better than this.
in fact, i think if you compare any page or design feature from 2.0 with its corresponding page or design in 1.0, you'll have the same problem. everything in 1.0 looks better and works better than everything in 2.0.
make all icons smaller and more compact (like 1.0). get rid of so many tabs (and unnecessary scrolling/clicking). consolidate if you can (e.g. comments on movie pages/blog posts). get rid of awkward and ugly blocks of needless text (e.g. the partial list descriptions to the right of the checked/total numbers). the dash is worthless right now; put the old 1.0 category list on the dash or at least on the bottom of the profile page. get rid of the noise and the chaos.
also, ignore the impulse to just discount our criticism because "the internet just hates change" or whatever. i feel people have made very good and lengthy arguments as to why exactly 1.0 works better. you should take all of this into serious consideration.
i really do miss the old design and am really upset by this; i expect it will be made better in time (users aren't going to suffer through this and no one is going to pay for this). nonetheless, certain user suggestions have been fulfilled that were not originally part of 2.0. and i feel like this can be made to work.
one of the really important things was access to the original list view/organization. and, if you click on the "progress" tab you can see this 1.0 view of the official lists! however, the other tabs on the progress page don't seem to be working, i.e. i can only access the ALL tab. when i try to click the individual tabs, e.g. "imdb," "website," "awards," etc., it just reloads the ALL tab. this is awful. i hope this is another glitch and that you don't expect me to pay in order to access categorical tabs.
i just have a few questions: don't you think the pay accounts are a bit unfair? don't you think this turns off current users and (even more so) prospective users? we can't see our own comments? we can't filter searches? we can't create groups? we can only make one personal list and it can only have up to 100 movies and we can't add a custom avatar to it (get ready for a sea of ugly default avatars)? and trying to do anything that seems basic but that we aren't allowed to do sends us straight to the "buy this" page? seriously?
also, as other users have mentioned below, don't you think the cumbersome design and the increased complexity of the site makes this all that more difficult to navigate and use and thus less attractive to new users? i expect you would have gotten more revenue from adverts on the 1.0 design than you will from adverts AND accounts on the 2.0 design. i could be totally wrong, but i feel this 2.0 design has a lot of problems that need to be seriously addressed (and i only say this because i do care about this site and use it frequently and want to see it succeed).
p.s. the "progess" tab looks and works perfectly. it is exactly what i hoped 2.0 would be; it maintains the smart design of 1.0 while simply expanding features and making information more readily accessible. it's great. good job!
please make this list view available to all users (paying & non-paying): http://twitpic.com/7773n9
if you recall, i hide huge gripes about the new list organization and suggested that we have a way to see the official list in both the new 2.0 way and in the old 1.0 way. but, i think it's unwise and unfair to force us to pay if we want the 1.0 design. as a suggestion: for non-paying users, maintain the "progess" tab as is but perhaps without the award "progess" icons. that way, we have access to the very smart official list organization that we are all familiar with in 1.0, even if we haven't paid.
