A quiet character study of two old friends on a camping trip and a visit to a hot spring. The plot is slight, but what makes it is Kelly Reichardt's direction and some extraordinary cinematography. A beautiful film. 7.5/10
Despite the disclaimer at the beginning, the movie is very clearly based on the unfair 1915 trial, conviction and lynching of Leo Frank. It's as agonzing to watch as the real thing, which is something else for a Code-era film.

Leos Carax (Holy Motors) takes the natural unreality of musicals and stretches it like Silly Putty, guffawing at the audience the way Luis Bunuel used to wink at it. It's a bit overlong and more than a little dark, but I enjoyed it immensely and won't forget it soon. 8/10
It's not perfect, and maybe it doesn't go according to Rostand's original story, but I haven't run into many musicals with the kind of emotional impact this one packs. If you can stay dry-eyed through "Wherever I Fall," fine, but I couldn't. And Peter Dinklage's performance is the equal of any I've seen in the last decade. 9/10
