Completely missed the mark for me. I was left wondering "what's the point?" The plot goes nowhere and the characters go nowhere. No character has any idea what they're doing or why. It's just a series of random events that just sort of ends. There's no motivation for anything and nothing gets resolved. At no point was it explained why I should care about what's happening on the screen.
As bizarre as this movie is. What's stranger is that it's based on a book called The Double written by Jose Saramago in 2002. Another movie was made the same year (2013) with an identical premise as this directed by Richard Ayoade called The Double which is also based on a book of the same name, but written over a century early by a different author.
I don't know if that's all a happy coincidence or if this was planned for some reason. At the end of the day, however, I enjoyed The Double by Ayoade more.
Felt like a was watching Return of the King again. The young hero has to wear a token of evil on a chain around his neck. His friends want to share the load but can't bear it. It eventually starts to degrade their mind and wants to get back to its creator. This could not be closer to Lord of the Rings. They're even trekking across wide landscapes to destroy it. You have to be kidding me.
I couldn't even finish this movie. I had to stop after she telekinetically makes the bullets drop out of the bottom of a pistol. Nothing in this movie is grounded in any sort of logic. There is no room for suspension of disbelief in this as they try to explain it with garbage nonsense science.
I can get behind your typical superhero origin story. Radioactive spiders and strange vats of chemicals are fun superhero elements, but Stan Lee doesn't try to pass that stuff off as being based on real scientific research.
Yeah, it's science fiction, but the science is so embarrassingly misguided it's not even fun.
Torgo is right, this feels a lot like a Coen movie. Reminds me of Inside Llewyn Davis. You're not sure if you should feel bad for the guy or not. All this terrible stuff is happening to him, but at the same time it's kind of his fault for lying to or being a jerk to everyone he meets.
I'm amazed at how many people failed to see the point of this movie, or fail to appreciate it. They are in no way promoting the events or the lifestyle in the movie. You're not meant to look up to or even like the characters. Did you not even watch to the end? It's not a movie about boobies.
In any case, Harmony Korine managed to produce such a unique and power atmosphere, and the colors are fantastically used. Every frame is gorgeous to look at. Even if you don't like the plot and themes, how could you look away?
Everytime I watch this movie it moves higher up on my list of favorites. Definitely my favorite Tarantino film. It's so cool. It's so cool. It's so cool.
Costner was god-awful, the music was hammy, and the writing was mediocre. De Niro had some good moments, but I'd recommend skipping this one. Lawless is a better prohibition movie, and L.A. Confidential is a better cop movie. Watch one of those instead.
Much more entertaining than the first film. I was afraid that it would be a try-hard bad movie, but it felt quite naturally terrible. James Nguyen does not disappoint.
This is one of the best films I've seen since Lord of the Rings. Gripping story and amazing costume design. Lord Hidetora was just fascinating to watch the whole time.
I really loved this film all the way through. It kept my attention for every second. It presented some very cool ideas while raising some questions and answering others. Had some interesting characters and excellent acting by Michael Fassbender, as well. If you're a fan of the Alien series then this is a must see.
