I had read the book a while ago and I was interested in seeing this film. It was disappointing as I thought it underplayed Mrs. Harris true characteristics. In the book she is heartwarming and at times naïve which draws people towards her. I know that films rarely follow the events in the book but the theme and essence of the main character was wanting.
The inaccuracies in this film are unbelievable. Most of the judicial proceedings were absurd. As an example, Young Offenders in Canada are never allowed to be named, filmed or photographed for publication anywhere unless allowed by a direct order from the court. Theatre is theatre but this was shear laziness on so many levels.
I had a hard time finding this movie and was able to get only half of it. So I read about the trains in the film from the link of Wonderful Rainbow. Hope that counts.
I was impressed with the filming and archival footage and photography. The narrative was impressive with the balanced coverage of both sides. I learned in the documentary that Lincoln was just another politician and not the advocate of emancipation as purported. I have a lot of questions that are still outstanding. How many lives were truly lost through the war. Not just those of soldiers. There is no mention of violence, rape and murder of the ordinary civilians by soldiers. How could you talk about a nation at war but not speak of the indigenous population except of a politician"s quote "A good Indian is a dead Indian"
