I do agree that this movie is very flawed, though discussing it as torture crap I don’t agree with. The first half show how the backpackers are living a lifestyle of exploitation, sex, drugs etc, and how they objectify women. Second half they themselves are being exploited by the elitist club. This as Well as How it critisizes the audience who love violence and exploitation on that meta level
Honestly, I went into this film with really low expectations, because of all the backlash of it just being a hollow political stunt with no legs. Even though I wasn't exactly blown away, I think this was a solid Marvel film. These are never going to be high art, but boy, do we love em'. BP had the original mcu formular, yet it felt very fresh. The styles and production design, makeup and so on, it brought an element that I hadn't seen much of in big movies. So all of you can go on about black agenda etc, but the fact that this felt so different must mean that it's true, that it is a part of world culture we don't see much of, and that was very cool and fun. Definitely not perfect, but a nice little surprise.
Honestly, this had great ideas and intentions, but it left me mostly disappointed. Sure, parts of it was beautiful looking and the bear sequence was great.. But it didn't know if it wanted to be, it seems. Nice homages to Stalker, I can appreciate that, but I didn't much care for this movie as an overall piece. And don't even get me started on the CGI near the end. Very cringeworthy effects for this day and age.
By NO stretch of the imagination is this a perfect movie.
The dialogue is often clunky and awkward. The style is all over the place. It has a lot of problems. But It's be lying if I said it didn't have some characters I found really charming. Also, scenes/moments that were good were actually really good, and these are often scenes between two characters. A scene where one character has to pep-talk the other especially comes to mind.
Give it a watch if you want, but you're not going to find anything new with this one.
Definitely interesting. Although it is very flawed, the film has stuck with me for a few weeks now. It is not the most original story out there, and you have most likely seen something similar, but the execution was creative and interesting at times. Also, surprisingly heartfelt scenes are to be found in there.
