Funnier than I was expecting. For some reason, the scene early on when they play gin sticks out as being really memorable.

The Set-Up has perhaps the most straightforward plot I have ever actually seen, but the execution makes it worth the watchn

The cover calls this a comedy and it does start out like American Pie with 60 year old corrupt businessmen before crossing the line into outright degradation.

There seems to be some social critique, but the final scene seems like it was put there just to disgust the viewer.

Like the other Monsieur Hulot film I've seen, it's just hours of people watching. It's entertaining, but requires a lot of attention for not a lot of payoff.

I'm surprised this didn't make the IMDB 50 for music. I'll definitely end up watching this again some time when I want to hear the songs again.

The realism of this film is approximately that of Rambo. That this won an Oscar is shocking.

If you like watching slasher gore, you might enjoy this. Other than the gore, it's a pretty poorly developed plot based on a pretty childish idea.

That Anthony Lane quote is spot on. Watch this when you have plenty of time to pay attention because you will probably never watch it again.

This is not my favorite noir by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly qualifies as one. The acting, cinematography and plot all perfectly fit the style.

I have neither complaints nor compliments. This is a completely average thriller. Why is it on an AFI list? I have no idea.

Trivia: the Adult Swim cartoon "Lucy: Daughter of the Devil" parodies several scenes from this movie.

It's a quality movie, but it's also blatant propaganda.

There is a bit of a gimmick to figuring out what is actually going on with Fanny and Alexander. I don't think it really fits the mystery genre, but there is a mystery to unravel in the film.

If you stick it out through the gore, there is a ham fisted and unsatisfying message.

Gentleman of Luck was pretty much unwatchable to me, but it could have been the subtitles on the version that I saw. Watch Out for the Automobile would be a top film noir if it was made in the US.

This movie should easily qualify as a top 50 thriller - great pacing with plenty of tension.

Bad acting, below average special effects, ABC plot, minimal character development...

It's enjoyable enough, but nothing spectacular.

This movie is basically just slapstick humor and melodrama which isn't my cup of tea.

In no way should this movie qualify as a thriller. I wouldn't describe it as a crime movie either though some crime does occur.

If I could only see 250 movies in my life, these wouldn't be it. Still, it's a fun list with a lot of variety.

If you're thinking of working your way through a list, I'd recommend this one to start with.

This movie is basically a combination of Mean Streets and the Hustler, if you're looking for something similar.

It's a seven hour, black and white film with minimal plot, little character development and very long blocks of silence. I get that it's a mood piece, but it came off as self indulgent to me.

Take the high rating on icheckmovies with a grain of salt. Very few people have committed 7 hours to this movie and most of them have taste very different from the mainstream.

A big reason this is rated so highly is that the only people to have heard of it are people predisposed to liking it (but, that could be said for most of the movies on the "most liked" list).

It's well done, but it's still a romantic comedy.

This has the pacing and style of a Final Fantasy cut scene circa Final Fantasy 7.
