One of Chaplin's funniest shorts and some great physical feats. The bit where he turns around when he sees the stuffed bear and goes right back down the stairs is absolutely hilarious and just a wonderful bit of acting that isn't just physical slapstick stuff. Extremely clever and one of Chaplin's better shorts.
I disagree with stexdo. The movie gets really interesting when *SPOILERS*

He starts seeing her again. The twist, in the beginning, is more just part of the setup to get to what the film is really about.
Absolutely hilarious and the manner in which Fields seems to casually accept his misfortune in each scene as if it's the natural state of things, but keeps pressing on is great, and his timing and delivery is always exceptional.
Great dialogue even if it doesn't have the one liner crackle and pop of a Marx brothers routine. Deservedly an all timer.
I wouldn't call it a Bollywood film as Bollywood refers to India's Hindi language film production located in Mumbai. Baahubali 2 would be considered a Tollywood film as it was filmed in Telugu and Tamil and later dubbed in other languages and filmed out of Hyderabad from an area known for India's Telugu film production.
Surprisingly there's some interesting takes on Frankenstien in this unfortunately poor film. Approaching it from Igor's perspective and the bond of colleagues and friends are actually kind of interesting. With a better director and a studio/producers more willing to have faith in character drama over schlocky action and this could have been a solid movie. Unfortunately instead it's kind of a hot mess.
@Siskoid - I would say Hana actually owes a debt to Sadao Yamanaka and his two best surviving pictures in particular the poverty stricken community and deconstruction of the samurai class of Humanity and Paper Balloons and the comedic lightness of The Pot Worth a Million Ryo.
Though I don't think Hana is quite on par with either, Humanity and Paper Balloons is a masterpiece and I'm pretty sure Kurosawa himself listed Pot Worth a Million Ryo as a favorite of his, it's still a welcome picture in Kore-eda's body of work.
Typically the rule is a movie needs to make twice its budget to break even. Studios do not get all of what it does in theater. And from what I gather they don't get as big a percentage of foreign sales as domestic which is why domestic ticket sales are so important. Especially during the beginning of a movie's release which they take a higher percentage than when it's been out for a few weeks. Though it's probably more specific from movie to movie, that's just a rough way how it works. Sadly Mr. Peabody wasn't a box office success.
It's quite good, but besides it's great look I never found it better nor as powerful as some of Hanake's other films like Cache, The Piano Teacher, Code Unknown, and Funny Games.
Terrible, the humor continuously falls flat, characters make mindless decisions, both De Niro performances are even poor. Only Mark Strong seems comfortable hamming it up throughout the picture. Can't believe De Niro, O' Toole, and McKellen were roped into this mess.
"The list is too slanted towards 'serious classics' - a 'serious film fan' should have more diverse tastes than that. "
- That's nonsense considering the list has the likes of Fight Club, Babe, The Princess Bride, and a number of more contemporary films too. And by "serious" do you mean strictly dramas? Because there are plenty of comedies and such on the list as well.
Howl's Moving Castle is actually my least favorite Miyazaki film. Porco Rosso, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Spirited Away are where it's at.
Oh and Babe: Pig in the City is great movie to all its detractors, it's the Night of the Hunter of talking animal movies. It's especially good compared to this list's stinker of a number 1 spot film.
