Wow, what an impeccable and grand masterpiece! I'm ashamed I postponed watching it sooner, thinking the duration was too lengthy, but the time flew so quickly and by the end I was left wanting more. There is and can never be enough words to wholly describe this film, every person needs to go see it for himself and be a part of the extravaganza that Lawrence of Arabia is.
I really didn't expect this film to be sentimental, which is terrific of Fellini, because people instantaneously think of happy things and laughter whenever anything's associated with the circus. Giulietta Masina is adorable.
Touching neorealist Italian film. Nobody gets it easy, but that's just life. Cried pretty much through the entire film, but the part that got to me worst was
when Umberto had Flike bite the tip of his fedora in hopes of getting money from pedestrians.
It's amazing how director Terrence Malick manages to bring about a very lyrical way of portraying life and death. A unique war film, unlike others that are jingoistic. The applied technique of multiple narrations perfected the film, something that enables the audience to metaphorically hear both sides of the story. Not every soldier has a thirst for the enemy's blood, but not every soldier is as patriotic as another. Every man definitely fights his own war.
I think what director Wolfgang Petersen successfully achieved the most was making the audience feel as if they were on the boat themselves. Even just by looking at the actors in a confined space, I felt like I was experiencing claustrophobia. It's not just a war epic, there are moments in the film that moves the audience in a profound way:
like the part where the chief and the lieutenant were looking over pictures of the chief and his wife, and he starts sobbing, or the part where Lt. Werner returns Ullmann's bulk of love letters because he was ordered to stay on board
, those moments make you empathize the characters even more. Highly recommend others to watch the director's cut, it does the movie justice.
The film not only possesses compelling dialogues and acting that draws you into the whole trial, but also has a very haunting presence to it; the underlying principal of humanity. Running time of 186 minutes, and not a single one of them wasted. Particularly adored Maximilian Schell and Montgomery Clift's performances.
A movie that cleverly and deviously plays with humor. Love Christian Slater's psychotic ambiance. Him and Winona make a great on-screen couple feuding over power.

A superb horror. Love the quaint mood of the movie. Wish I could say the same about the ending though.
