THE INTERNET FILM CLUB
In 2006 a friend of mine and I started an Internet Film Club which you are welcome to join.

You may be a member of a film club, where you watch films together, either at someones home or at a cinema. Well this is a net version of that. We don't come together but we watch the same films for a month and discuss them here on Facebook.

Welcome to my profile. My name is Thorkell A. Ottarsson and I'm a collector of vanished gazes (also known as films). I come from Iceland but live in Norway (Drammen). I'm married and a father of three girls. I studied theology and film and work as a social worker (with people with drug problems). Films are my biggest passion in life.

I have written some books on film (most in Icelandic) but also in English. I have been a board member of the local filmclub in Drammen since 2010. Here is my Letterboxd account, where I review films.

I love most genres, from all corners of the world and from all decades. That being said, silent films and "poetic" films have a special place in my heart.

Some of my favorite directors are:
F. W. Murnau
Andrei Tarkovsky
David Lynch
Alfred Hitchcock
Robert Altman
Abbas Kiarostami
Josef von Sternberg
Billy Wilder
David Lean
Eric Rohmer
Max Ophüls
Sam Peckinpah
Guy Maddin
David Cronenberg
Michelangelo Antonioni
Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Theo Angelopoulos
Robert Bresson
Michael Powell
Werner Herzog
Yasujirô Ozu

My top 10 list is as follows:
The Passion of Joan of Arc (Carl Th. Dreyer: 1928)
Lawrence of Arabia (David Lean: 1962)
The Mirror (Andrey Tarkovskiy: 1975)
Blade Runner (Ridley Scott: 1982)
Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock: 1954)
The Godfather (Francis Ford Coppola: 1972)
The Apartment (Billy Wilder: 1960)
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (F.W. Murnau: 1927)
Lost Highway (David Lynch: 1997)
Persona (Ingmar Bergman: 1966)

My "Favorites" below is a work in progress. The first 50 films are kind of solid/set in stone, but I have to work more on the rest of the 1000 films i have marked as favorite. You can on the other hand see my IMDb lists here, including my favorite directors and favorite films.
