Western criteria = action located in the western US or Mexico (provided US characters are portrayed), second part of the 19th century (until 1909) involving a confrontation between characters or group of characters (law enforcement or gunfighter vs outlaws; army or colons vs natives; small farmers against abusive ranchers, revenge story etc.).

Consequently, do not qualify as "westerns":

- "Zapata Westerns": Giu la testa, a bullet for the general, vamos a matar companeros, viva villa etc.
- Historical movies, civil war movies or frontier movies: last of the Mohicans, the revenant, distant drums, Alamo, Dead Man etc.)
