bitchypixelsNot as ambitious as Inglorious Basterds, but once again Tarantino pulls off this spaghetti western revenge story impeccably. With Oscar worthy performances from the whole cast, an out of this world soundtrack, and a whole lot of blood gushing fun. Django Unchained forces us to pay attention to the brutality of not only slavery, but racism as a whole, and I think that is something we as a society need to be reminded of. This film is right up there with Jackie Brown in regards to my favorite Tarantino films, and it's my definitely my favorite of 2012. Can't wait to see it a second time.
HebrewHammarManAfter several years and several rewatches, I realized this is one of my favorite movies. Tarantino and his crew made a wonderful and enjoyable movie.
imokaylarryThis holds up better than I remembered and is really only let down when Tarantino indulges in references and in-jokes. As always Tarantino is at his best when he plays it straight, or if not straight then working in service of the narrative rather than winking at the audience. Because he is undoubtably a master filmmaker when he’s not being self indulgent, capable of bringing more joy to an audience than virtually any other filmmaker working today. With Django he works very well with the troopers off the genre, always making sure to exceed them as with his never-more-violent shootouts.
What a DYNAMITE ...!!!!
Earring72Great Western with a superb cast! Good story and violent action and a lot of Tarentino gimmicks :-)
danisannaIt wouldn't be Tarantino movie if some scenes weren't incredibly ridiculous and completely over the top. However, entertaining movie. I quite liked it.
Incredible cast! They really pulled it together.
SiskoidI'm struggling with writing a review of Tarantino's Django Unchained. On the one hand, it's a terrific entertainment, violently rewriting history like Inglourious Basterds did, and on the other, it's a disturbingly difficult subject. Imagine if Basterds had taken place in a concentration camp, and you get the idea. It's slavery through a blaxploitation filter, a badass but brutal revenge western that threads the fine line between the comic and the horrific. Christoph Waltz once again steal the show as the German dentist/bounty hunter who takes Django (Jamie Foxx) as a partner. The weakest link is Samuel L. Jackson whose dialog feels anachronistic to me. At 165 minutes, the film feels a bit heavy, and keeps going after you think you've reached the last reel. Not sure what I'd cut out of it though. There's no scene that's not crucial to the plot, themes or tone. This isn't a negative or even a mitigated review, I really did love it (heck, I could have listened to the opening song for 2 hours). I guess I'm still not sure how to resolve its handling of race (the period and characters are unavoidably racist) as both comedy and drama, in relation to my feeling "entertained".
windyheadDjango is awesome! A great story simmering with tension. It plays like a classic western until the inevitable Tarratino cataclysm. Stylish and witty. I haven't enjoyed a film like that for a while.
FightaPilotI loved QT's brilliant/awful cameo at the end. Great fun.
Duke of OmniumNo character development; excessively long; absent any moral center whatever. What grace and depth it has it owes to Jamie Foxx. I've come to the conclusion that Tarantino does not make good movies; he makes bad movies with a lot of "panache" and craft.
Camille DeadpanIt's a kitschy movie with some fun elements and a very nice soundtrack and cinematography.
Jinkladjango unchained is tarantinos epic love-letter to his spaghetti western influences, and it delivers remarkably in acting, comedy, action and development. whilst the story is merely a revenge tale, the pacing and tension never stops. you know someone's going to snap, you just don't know who, how or when.
this is easily tarantinos best work since reservoir dogs, and it easily steals its place into one of my 21st century favorites. 9/10
samfennVery good. Enjoyed it a great deal. Bag mask scene was hilarious.
BreezyFamOne of the best films I've seen, don't watch it late at night though as its nearly 3 hours long and will ruin it.
tommy_leazaqGood not great. The first hour and the dinner sequence were amazing (Thanks to Waltz). Rest, not so much..
