When spoiler, Jordan Peele managed to weave social commentary directly into the climax of the film. That is amazing.

I don't know what the other commenters here are thinking. I found this movie to be EXCELLENT. It's not about some "new form [of] racism]" as one comment states. It's not about the anxiety a black person "might" feel around "white liberals" and I certainly don't think that there are many, if any, "innocuous moments" at all! This movie tackles RACISM, which is more than just plain-stated bigotry. This is about implicit bias. This movie tackles the subject matter of being a minority in a society that isn't made for you.

This is an incredibly deliberate, intentional film by a talented director with strong command of the medium. From Frame 1 it sets up a tension that only builds, excepting a few comic relief moments (which actually work!), all the way to the climax.

I absolutely feel this film is worthy of all the praise it's receiving, and I think this one is going to be studied for years to come, partly because of its excellent execution, but also partly because it's a movie about the black experience told from the perspective of a black person, by a black person. That should be a no-brainer but I can't think of another movie that does it, let alone like this.

Oh, also: this is one hell of a directorial debut. The cinematography and sound design work, the acting is excellent, and it was scary as FUCK!

Great old-school horror/suspense thriller. Not this crap they sell nowadays that's all jumpcuts for startles.

Jordan Peele's Get Out is a well-constructed horror-thriller (and pun not intended, black comedy) with fine attention to detail, exampled of which I can't mention because they would spoil the "solution". One you know that solution, rewatching the film will make you questions the motive behind every innocuous moment and line. Definitely some rewatch value there. What has entranced critics, I think, is that the film is about the black experience, and specifically about the anxiety a black person might feel around white liberals who don't consider themselves racist, but nevertheless act differently and overcompensate around black people. Add to that a concern with being "black enough"present in the work of Key & Peele and you might start to discern Get Out's complexity. Not one of those horror flicks who should shut your brain down for. Worth every penny.

Good movie I enjoyed it. It's original, thought provoking and entertaining.

However, the manner in which movie critics and even the comments here have been gushing over it is the very same overcompensation which Peele is examining here.

not scary? this movie is fucking horrifying. THIS is what horror should be like, not dumb mosters and jump scares. it is excellently acted, excellently paced and just keeps you at the edge of your seat the whole time.
it reminds me of Joel Edgerton's The Gift, in that it's not a "supernatural" horror but it is incredibly, truly scary the whole time.

Having watched this after the initial hype, I found the film interesting. It wasn't spectacular, but it was pretty great. The social commentary is probably the most interesting, though the performances across the board are really fantastic.

For those wondering, I didn't find this film that scary. Not really any jump scares except one. The rest is just creepy.

Overall, an excellent film with lots to talk about. Recommended!

So overrated. Social commentary aside its a bang average film and It seems to me that all of the praise for it is borne from tokenism, which is ironic really as that just ultimately takes away from the message the film is trying to send.

I really wish that this film was better than it is, but the sad reality is its little more than a B movie with an unsubtle message that has been overrated to the point it seems slightly patronising.

Having said that, I prefer my horrors to be scary so perhaps I was never going to get along with this.

I honestly enjoyed it and I'd recommend it, but I've some things to say:

[SPOILERS]
It was very predictable, it is basically a combination of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Martyrs, but it has its own ideas. First of all, from the moment they got to the house I had a pretty close idea of how the family was going to be and by the moment the guests arrived the sectarian aspect was obvious, but even though it was predictable, the development of the plot was good. The biggest issue I had while watching was the scape part, instead of killing the entire family, I think he should kill only the brother and then scape without the family noticing him (or at least trying not to be noticed), problably I'd left the part with the servants and the girlfriend chasing him, this way it would have increased the suspense drastically.

Get Out is basically The Stepford Wives meets Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

Very good suspension thriller. Made me think of Eden Lake, but Get Out has more layers to it.
