It's basically Revenge of the Nerds with monsters.

A pleasant return to see some old friends. Not as strong by a mile as Monsters Inc., and lacking in imagination in parts as the Disney influence continues to loom like a shadow over Pixar's creations, but overall quite enjoyable.

As a side note, Monsters University makes plain what the Disney-produced Pixar features are lacking: Real heart and a way of making the film relatable to its target audience. As it stands, they come off as marketing tools to sell toys primarily rather than the other way around.

Didn't like it as much as the first, but it was still pretty good.

What a shame. Lots of heart but no laughs. The young, lean Sully is displeasing to my eyes.

I went to see this movie, just expecting to hang out for a while. But I really enjoyed it. I had a good time. The ending was one of the best I've seen from Disney animated movies

This turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I was never a big fan of the first Monsters Inc, due to its overwhelming sappy-sweetness, and wasn't expecting much here. I'm glad to be proven wrong! Pixar pulled off a great odd couple, buddy story! I got a lot of solid belly laughs out of Monsters University and really enjoyed how the story developed. I must also tip my hat to the superior animation, which really went the extra mile for what could have been a shrug-off sequel. Don't miss this one.

I think expectations will serve people differently in how they see this film.

I for one had low expectations but freaking loved this movie. Most people I know that had high hope were disappointed. It may not be the best Pixar film, but it's one of the most fun. Thanks, Pixar!

I was excited to see this! It was either Despicable Me 2 or Monsters U and how could I pass over watching a Pixar film! I liked the film, it was a nice prequel that worked well with the original. A must watch for 3D animation lovers.

I loved it, from the beginning to the end. I don't remember to have laughed so much with any other movie. I like it more than the first film. Pixar did such a beautiful job.

I loved this one better than the first one. I thought I would wet myself laughing during the first tunnel test! So funny! I love Pixar!

Much better than it deserved to be. In addition to a good story and characters, Pixar took on some challenges with the animation. The sequence in the library was a standout for me in that regard.

Not quite as good as the original, but still very funny and very well done. And I definitely can tell why it didn't do well in theaters; it's too reliant on people being familiar with the college experience to get the jokes. But my mom and I (who are both huge fans of Monsters, Inc.) enjoyed it very much and laughed a lot.
